Vertical taskbar clock is cut off by notification graphic

Vertical taskbar clock is cut off by notification graphic

Happens on one computer, any theme; other computer is fine

I have a frustrating problem with the taskbar in vertical configuration.  The system tray icons are pushed down, which pushes the clock down, which is then covered by the notifications icon.  See the linked screen-grab.  I can fix it temporarily by moving the taskbar to horizontal configuration, and then moving it back.  But it messes up again, e.g., when it is resized or new task tray icons are added.  This happens on my work laptop.  My personal laptop does not have this problem at all.

Hi, new update on this behaviour:

a) taskbar vertical, clock cropped

b) set taskbar horizontal, clock fine

c) move taskbar vertical again, now the clock is fine!

Something is missing then on WindowsBlind code.... some metric is not being calculated when applying skin on a vertical taskbar, that it is calculated when moving taskbar from horizontal to vertical!

Also, please see on the vertical image, that the "over" effect for the "display desktop" button is misplaced... this is congruent with my theory

example: Set horizontal....

Now vertical is fine:

Example with other skin:

now vertical si fine:

okay.. when its is fine... after you reboot. what happened? Still fine or back to the initial problem?

After reboot, same problem.

In fact, if I do a 3 step reposition (Down, left, right) it gets wrong the second time i move it vertical (from left ok - right wrong), or vice versa (from right ok, to left wrong)

Just tested other thing: Once on "correct" vertical position (making taskbar horizontal, then vertical), this "correct" position won't persist. Example, on opening the "display properties" of windows, it will resize itself and cut again the clock.

make sense to you that is a bug on the "OnDraw" or "OnResize" event of windowblinds?

I have a theory that this is actually caused by a bug in Windows 10 — specifically in inconsistent or improper scaling for hi resolution monitors.  My monitor is 4K and I have noticed weird scaling around the task tray.  When I click the OneDrive icon in the task tray, the pop up context menu is HUGE.  I can’t figure out why.  Other apps in the task tray have normal size context menus.  But to me, it still indicates that this could be a scaling problem.  Do other people with this issue have hi-rez displays?

All I can say now is that I can't reproduce your problem on my pc. Maybe there is something about the scaling problem on system on two or more monitors with different resolution. Just to let you know that Windowblinds will be coming up with a new version soon. But I cannot confirm if this problem will be address on the new version.

Anyway, I have forwarded your problem to Stardock Support team for their assistant. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patient.

Thanks, Basj.  If anyone at Stardock wants to see first hand my issue, I’d be happy to host a remote screen share session.

Basj,

Are you positive that putting your task bar on the left or right won't reproduce the problem?

Can you please attach an image?

I would like to help Stardock not to miss this bug on next release... and make us wait till another round of Q+A...

I have easily reproduced the error on different machines.. even with "low" resolution (1280x960).

As humble as I can say it, this is a problem related to getting metrics from windows desktop. As you can read from previous posts, moving taskbar betwwen horizontal and vertical fixes the problem for a while (a few minutes, until a screen update event is probably triggered)

thanks in advance for your time.

I'm not basi but he has a sS - Reply #3.

I have been here a long time and made a lot of Windowblinds and still do. Win 7 and 10. I have just moved the taskbar Left, Right top, Bottom, several times and applied each time. I have no problem what so eve and never had.

What else is I haven't updated to 1803 yet so maybe that is doing it. There is a revised Windowblinds coming out in the near future I believe. I would at this point wait and see if the corrects your situation.

basi sad he submitted your situation to support and sure they are or have looked into it. basi and support are on top of things as the new Window update has messed with a few other things.

Hi Basj,

After several testings, please do this to replicate the problem:

a) Put the taskbar on the left

b) expand the system tray icons. This will cause WB to trigger a repaint event that will produce the error on the clock.

Please tell us your results.

Greetings

Hello, I am not sure what you mean "expand the system tray icons"? but here what I get on my system. Still no problem.

As of 3.april.2019, WindowBlinds version 10.74, the 2 problem still persist:

a) clock is covered

b) some windows title bars have buttons improperly skinned

Well, still not seeing what you're seeing. I just notice your "Screen10.exe" is a few months older than mine. Maybe you can try the purge and reinstall steps and see if that help you. https://forums.stardock.com/486023/windowblinds-support-faq#reinstalling

Here what I have on my system vs yours
