Can't Install Fences 3.08

Installer Fences_3.08_setup_sd.exe refuses to run

I recently got a new computer at work.

It's running Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1 (same as the old one).  System type:  64-bit Operating System.

When I run the installer, I get a Security Warning about an Unknown Publisher.  If I tell it to Run (or if I run it in Admin mode) I get another error dialog that states:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running.  Check your computer's system information to see whether you need and x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

Is there another version of the installer that I can try?  I downloaded this one from the purchase page.  When I look at my order history, it tries to download the same installer.

FWIW, I also have Fences 2, and was getting the exact same errors.  I just assumed it wasn't working because it's ancient and unsupported, so I bought Fences 3...but it fails in the exact same way.

I hadn't tried that (purging) before.  I just tried it, didn't make any difference.  Still get exact same error message as listed above.

Revised Post

Sorry your having this problem , support is now aware too

Being a new computer make sure you do a Windows update if it does need an update that might fix the problem

will also  send a note to basj who helps with support

and is running Win7 Pro on one machine with fences 3.08 no problems

maybe being a work computer something ( program ) was added that

could interfere with fences and or other programs ?

In Task Manager / Start Up does it show fences if so is it Enabled ..

Windows Update says there are no updates available.

Last update was installed 2/5/2018 (a ton of them were installed that day, my first Windows Update after getting the new computer).

I'm really not sure what the difference between this computer and the last computer would be, w.r.t. OS.  The hardware is different (several years have passed since I've had an upgrade), but the system software is the same, since it's controlled by the IT dept (they control the roll out of updates to all the computers in the office).

Fences doesn't show up in the Task Manager (as expected since I can't install it).  It also doesn't show up in the Start Menu, other than the 2 installers I've tried to run, and the Purge_Fences.bat I just ran.

Basj is in a different time zone he comes on

Later tonight with his Win7 set up maybe he'll

see something helpful ..stay tuned ..

Have you checked with your iT dept. If they could be blocking somehow your trying to load Fences on THIS computer ?

I would think they should be able to help you best to get a program loaded on their work computer..

Maybe new restrictions have been added for the new computer ?

Hello,

To tell you the truth, I have never have this problem from Stardock product ever. I'm currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64. Service Pack 1.

What I can assume is that the new pc you having also comes with some support software preinstall. And I think one of the support software is not very good in selecting which allowed to run and which is not... Would be interesting to know what Brand of PC you using.. And if possible what softwares are always running when you turn on your pc... and I will try to figure out what the problem.

I contacted our IT department, and it was on our end.

Something to do with a Firewall program corrupting the download from your server.  They've modified the Firewall settings to fix the problem.

After that, everything worked as expected.

Sorry for the trouble, I should have checked with IT first :P
