License only allows one machine - require refund as this just doesn't work for me.

Object Desktop license

Your license is only for one machine. It requires uninstalling Object Desktop if it is used on another machine. I run VMs and multiple machines at home. I am completely uninterested in paying for a license on every machine/VM. I also wanted to use the Icon Packager at work but your license further bans any use in commercial settings.

Unfortunately, the restrictions in your license make your Object Desktop unusable for me.

You really should consider switching to a per-user licensing model.

Further, I recommend you consider introducing a personal version that people can license so long as their employer isn't paying for it.

In the meantime, I am considering requesting a refund. How do I do so?

I replied to my post and am also appending the relevant license clause from the license displayed by the Object Desktop installer.

The section afterward identifies that I can't install my purchased software on my work computer because it wasn't a commercial license .... effectively making my purchase useless to me.

There must be more to your situation than meets the eye.

From Stardock's EULA:

An Individual User may:

  1. Install, use and activate one (1) copy of the Software on up to five (5) unique personal computers simultaneously that are owned by you for your personal use.

    1. For Software acquired from Stardock via an automatic recurring payment subscription method you may install, use and activate the Software on up to five (5) unique personal computers simultaneously for as long as your subscription remains active.

I believe the license extends to multiple VM's on those 'unique personal computers' but others would need to verify that.

Business licenses are available but are more restrictive if I'm not mistaken.

As Daiwa has posted, you can install the Object Desktop apps on up to 5 of your own PCs. An installation on a VM counts as any other installation.

A business use is different and would require a separate license.

Thanks for clarification on the VM question, ID.  Jafo's bill must be huge then.

Not sure how many of my VMs have SD stuff on them....but it's amazing just what you can get away with when you know where the bodies are buried...;)

Just a shout out to Daiwa and Island Dog. Long time no speak. Looks like more than a few of the old political gang are gone. Just found JoeUser link buried in a forgotten directory. For some unknown reason JU won't let me PM or send emails. So I'll just do it this way. How ya'll been? Any idea what ever happened to Elie (aka Moderateman)?

Uh...I don't know where that came from but when I installed mine it clearly stated that you can install on up to 5 computers so long as those five computers are for your personal use. This is from mine.

Your EULA is from the IconPackager folder. It isn't all of Object Desktop.

My posted license comes from the Object Desktop installer. Which I purchased. Since I need Object Desktop to install available software it gives me, all uses of such software effectively become bound to that license.

As long as it's not more than 5 [five] physical machines [VMs also classify as such] then you are good to go...;)

End of jrpetit's quote

That's actually not the case.  The phrase "Object Desktop" is a trade name which refers to the suite of applications that are bundled under the subscription.  There is no "Object Desktop installer or application" to be needed - one doesn't exist.  The individual applications in the bundle all have their own installers (.exe's).

There is a utility application called "Object Desktop Manager" which can be used to install & manage the individual applications (perhaps this is the Object Desktop installer you are actually referring to? - I readily admit its name lends itself to some possible confusion & perhaps it has its own EULA) but it is a convenience application only, via separate download, that is not required to install or use the suite of applications which are included in the subscription to "Object Desktop."  All the installers for the individual applications in the suite can be directly downloaded from the My Downloads page of your Stardock Account, the account you had to create in order to purchase the Object Desktop subscription.  As far as I know, Object Desktop Manager is a free app.  If you click the "Download" button opposite Object Desktop Manager on the My Downloads page, it links to a file named objectdesktop_setup.exe.  That may be what installs the Object Desktop Manager application itself which can then be used to install the individual apps (please forgive my ignorance, I've never done it that way & I've been a subscriber since 2001).  Assuming it indeed has its own EULA, it is not applicable to the individual apps in the suite, only to ODM itself, which again is a superfluous application (IMO) which some people prefer to use (when it works).

And the EULA snippet Jafo has posted is accurate with respect to all the bundled applications.  I hope all this lends some clarity to these muddy waters.

I need to mark this in the books- there is a EULA debate.  People read EULA's?

You can install the Object Desktop components on up to 5 computers that are owned by you.  It works- try it ;)

jrpetit seems doggedly determined to abide by one EULA, anyway.
