[Bug Report] Start 10 v1.56

Not sure where to post this, so I will post in both Steam and Stardock forums.

My Computer Specs:

  • Intel 7th Gen. i7-7700K
  • NZXT Kraken 41 Liquid CPU Cooler
  • MSI Z270 M3 Gaming LGA 1151
  • Cooler Master V1000 80+ Gold PSU

  • EVGA GTX 460 (Dedicated Physx)
  • 32GB G.Skill TridentZ RGB PC4-19200
  • 128GB Toshiba OCZ RD400 SSD NVMe M.2 (System Disk)
  • 2TB RAID 10 (4 x Seagate ST1000DX002 FireCuda SSHD) (Files Disk)

  • 2 x ViewSonic VG2436wm-LED 24" [LEFT/RIGHT] (GTX 460)
  • Windows 10 64 bit
  • Stardock Fences v3.0.5.11

All Windows updates are installed, all drivers are up to date. No Over Clocking is done on this rig.

Customization:
The only thing that I do different, is I robocopy my Users folder to my RAID 10 array (1TB), delete the original C:\Users folder and create a Junction (mkink) to the D:\Users folder.  Windows then "thinks" my Users folder is still on C, but I don't have to worry about the size of my profile, filling up my 128GB M.2 drive.

Bug Report:

When I press the Windows key on my keyboard, the 7 style menu comes up.  If I attempt to type a search term in, for instance TeamSpeak, I get the following:
$eamSpeak - with Shift
teamspeak - without Shift

I can confirm this with the S key as well:
#kype - with Shift
skype - without Shift

When I attempt it other keys, the search query remains black when using Shift, and types the letter without.  If I type $, then backspace and type T again, it works fine.  It is the initial first use after hitting the Windows key.

I hope I have provided enough information for replication.  Please let me know if there is anything else you require.

Thanks!

Sorry Devs/Mods, I could swear I was in the Start8 and Start10 board.  Could a mod please move the original post to that board, and if need, delete this one, when done?

Thanks, and sorry.

Thank you!

I am not sure how those apply?  The Start 10 settings are per user.  When I created a new Admin account "Stardock Test" I logged in, and like I thought, I could not replicate the issue.  Start 10 is starting with that account.

The issue, is an actual bug in your code.  Because I can replicate it with the settings.  That is why I took the 30 minutes to carefully document my settings, in my original post.

Now I realized it happens if I merely click the Start button, and try to type a Capital letter.  Backspace, and then retyping it works.  It is just that initial first letter.  Very odd!

Thanks for the reply, by the way!

That was the point of the exercise; to see if it was user account specific - that some other setting within Start10, or a 3rd party app, was playing a role.

Once that is known, it's a process of elimination on the other account.  Not fun but at least you know it's not a flaw (or not likely) in the app itself.

But it is a flaw, in the app!  It is a flaw with the settings you allow us!  IT IS A FLAW IN THE APP!

It's a bug I am trying to show the Developers.  Major bug?  No.  But still a bug!

The issue will be with  Replace Start 10 search with Cortana search

Unfortunately depending on your PC you may lose a keystroke if Cortana takes longer than anticipated to appear and you type extremely quickly.  Typically this would be the second keystroke not the first (as Start10 intentionally fixes the first lost keystroke).  As you are holding shift down (why as I don't think it is case sensitive?), thats the first keystroke so the letter is the second and the keystrokes are likely to be extremely quick thus potentially showing up this issue.
