Purchase or Subscription?

Please excuse this "newbie" question:

For my $29.99, what is it I am getting: The outright purchase of the Fences software, which I am then able to keep using for as long as I want?  Or a subscription that requires further payments every year or so?

I ask because more and more software developers (eg. Quicken) seem to be moving (for understandable reasons) to the subscription model.

Fences is only $9.99 as a stand-alone purchase and license.

If you go with an Object Desktop membership, you get a year of updates during your membership. If you decide not to renew you can keep using your applications, but make sure you download the installers.
