More from DesktopX please

It strikes me that while all the applications on WC are great and of huge value, DesktopX seems to get slightly overlooked.

This is an application which probably more than most has the potential to add value to the desktop as well as style. The userbase however, seems relatively small, or they are just very quiet on WC.

Why is it that despite having a large volume of skins in the library, a DX object or theme has only been the 'Featured skin' 6 times this year, and not much more in 2002.

Maybe a bit more exposure would increase interest, and stimulate the value it adds to desktop even more.

And a clue on how to do them

Martin, i LOVE desktopX, i mean completely LOVE it. Was using it since the very first beta, i think it started at .4?

I made a couple of themes and objects for it a while back....and I had alot of fun doing it. The problem back then was that for all the time I spent doing it...in the end it was only minmally useful. All the good stuff was only able to be done with DXToys, which unfortunately had lots of bugs, and then got way too all-inclusive. (I Still say he should have broken it up into smaller plug-ins with the new plug-in model, sicne you can add multiple plug-ins to the same object).

Now I'm anxiously awaiting making more things since the functionality is immense with DXScript. But I dont want to take the time to do it until DX 2.0 because I"m afarid of all the time I'll have to re-spend to update it.

I'm going to make a bigger post on this in the DX Newsgroup with some suggestions and larger explaination of why i love DX.

I agree with Adam. DesktopX is the best program. It adds animation that is not possible with Windowblinds. Themes like Innovation, Birds Of Prey and The Recruit Desktop, show how great this program could be. It could be leaps and bounds above Aston or even DNA. It just needs more developer support to increase the obvious functionality and eliminate the bugs. The simple things, not being fixed, are really hurting a program that is so much better than Windowblinds. I guess Stardock is catering to their bread and butter, and almost abandoning a great program.

I also agree, I love how windowblinds changes the windows and makes the whole thing look nicer, I only change it occasionally, as I spend more time looking through the desktop X library.

Desktop X really changes how the computer looks and feels, and just when you think you have seen it all, a theme like LCARS comes along and changes everything.

I would like to see Desktop X in the Featured skins library more often.

DesktopX can already do a heck of a lot more than people give it credit for. It can do most if not all that dxtoys can/could do and more through the power of DXscript. I am still waiting for someone who can create a plugin that could pull in data fed to it from a script command and draw a graph or something. Currently scripting is a bit problematic but I know that Stardock are looking into improving both it and DesktopX generally. The future is exciting. Already there are some cool scripts that I have knocking about my hard disk but too experimental/rough around the edges to release to the public.

yes DX is very cool and has many possibilities. way more than other apps. especially with the ability to do scripting. Combine that with a known ability to do websites, SQL, VB, and other stuff it is a cool program.

I am also amazed with its connectivity to other scripting languages. There are so many things that can be done on it and with it. On top of that, if you write enough scripts to it you could have yourself a program with in a program. Very cool.

a great addition to anyone who does web design /GUI design or corporate internet/interanet and network systems too. what a way to control the desktop and get the most out of the work space.

I am so happy I know of this program that I do flips thinking about the possibilities.
