Bug? Black squares

Random black squares

I just installed Fences 3, and now I am getting random black squares on my desktop, and occasionally black background when switching to a new desktop page.  I really like Fences and have been using it since Version 1, but if this can't be fixed than I will have to stop using it.

I had this issue with an older laptop I was using. After restarting it resolved itself. If the issue persists after restarting try reinstalling Fences on the computer. One of those should resolve the problem you're having.

I did reinstall Fences, twice.

I removed Fences and the problem went away.

I miss having Fences.

Hi,

I have the same problem and seen multiple topics relating to this problem. I reinstalled fences several time, new versions, purge, new windows 10 install, etc.. Nothing helps. Is seem to be related to using multiple monitors.

It seems to be a persistent bug in Fences and for me spoils the fun of what used to be a very effective tool.

Please a solution.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. You mentioned you have tried the purge and reinstall steps mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling

if so try the clean boot steps https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#cleanboot

Try that and see if there is something conflicting with Fences.

Thank you

I have three monitors on my PC.  Since reinstalling the latest version of Fences, the problem still occurs, but much less often.

Please try updating your Graphics driver. Follow steps listed below.

Same issue here.

With fresh install of Fences 3.0.9.11, up to date Win10.

Multiple Monitor setup, made clean install of latest Nvidia graphics drivers as suggested above.

Problem persists.

Desktop artifacts after mouseover on hidden icons.

In this picture, you can see one of three (or more) effects:

  1. icons leave black artifacts after mouseover
  2. background goes full black
  3.  icons leave background color artifacts on wrongly black background (even all fences/icons were hidden by double click!)

Interestingly, the save dialog for saving the screenshot to disc instantly recovered the background.

This issue is annoying and makes me think I should have tested before buying.

Could you post a video capture of your problem. So we can actually see the problem.

Thank you,

I would also like to know if you are using any third party monitor app like Display Fusion or WallPaper engine?  Also, if you restart WinExplorer is the issue immediately resolved:

Please reinstall or update graphic drivers is a common duck and hide response to a problem that the devs can't fix.

I too am having the same problem and have tried the different solutions proposed here.
I have a three monitor setup and have screens turning black, black  square appearing
randomly on my desktop , which makes fences unusable.

Judging from the multiple threads and from the people reporting the same problem
and trying the different solutions, I would like a refund.

Thanks,

Iwan

If you wish for a refund you can use this link for it : https://stardock.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/4

But if you still wish us to help you.

We really need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows version, please use Winver.exe for full Windows version numbers.
  2. Fences version installed.
  3. A video capturing the issue, post it somewhere and link it here, so we can understand it better.
  4. Any 3rd party software that might interfere with Fences. Especially on Wallpaper manager such as Wallpaper engine or any program which put its own Desktop organizer such as 360 total security.
