I rebooted after a power outage today and all my fences and icons (bar one fence) had disappeared from the desktop. I tried double clicking but that just affected the one remaining fence. How can I get the others back?
Fences takes an automatic daily snapshot of the arrangement you have. It stores 3 days worth of these snapshots, so you should have one of your prior configuration.
To get to it, right click on your desktop and open Fences config.
Then choose "Layout and mapping" from the left side of the config window. You'll see 3 thumbs in a little window.
Right click on the one you wish to engage, and choose "Restore snapshot".
That should do it for you.
