Possible to have a Copy of the Default Skin to Edit?

Recently purchased WindowsBlinds for Windows 10 and was hoping to simply change the background color of Windows Explorer from its stark white to something a bit darker, but saw that the only way to customize anything was to either make a skin using SkinStudio (which applies a lot of aspects of much older Windows OS') or to edit a preset skin which changes much more than I'd like. Even the WinCustomize website is sorely lacking in anything recent for Windows 10.

Is there any way to just edit some small areas without needing to apply skins that change much more than needed?

There are plenty of skins for Windows 10. Almost all of Lightstar's and vStyler's have been updated for Windows 10.

The Default skin/theme is by Microsoft. It can't be changed. Blame that on Bill Gates.

Though I prefer simple skins.

Would rather not have the taskbar, titlebars, or anything like that changed out. From what I've seen, it tends to conflict with one thing or another in the end.

Then to top it off... they just simply look outdated or too "cluttered", something more fitting of the XP / Vista era, with only the Stardock ones looking more "modern", but that's all only my opinion.

Only want to change the bright white areas into something easier on the eyes, nothing really too fancy, can't find any skins that try to be minimalistic.

Found some software (QTTabBar) that apparently used to allow recoloring of what I'm looking for, but with the updates to Windows 10 and the last update for the software being from 2015, it does not work like it should.

So it does look to be possible, would be nice for WindowBlinds to incorporate something like this into it.

Andy, he wants to alter the default skin. The one that Microsoft made.

Was pissing around with colour temps on my tv yesterday to see if picture improved from the normal setting,it didn't.This morning i thought it may help reduce the glare you mention in my win 7 as the setting i had was very bright.I dropped it from the mode it was in to standard,it sorta worked. Its like looking at the monitor screen through a very very faint grayish filter. It'll be noticeable till i get used to it,however it has had the desired effect sort of.I may at a later stage use custom settings

Doesn't even have to be the default one per-se, part of why I said a copy of the default to use as a base to edit since starting from scratch within SkinStudio ends up applying a lot of extremely outdated designs to areas untouched.

Though ended up finding a theme called Penumbra10 (stock version) that was pretty close to what I wanted, but that uses UltraUXT so guess I wasted money on WindowBlinds. Only main caveat now is the lack of the Ribbon being skinned, but ultimately may just disable it if I can't find some method to giving it a matching color.

Understood, but the thing is, the default theme is not part of WindowBlinds. It is part of Windows. Hence getting a copy, or changing the default, isn't likely to happen.

This Penumbra10  skin doesn't look nothing like the Default skin you wanted. So how this looks pretty close is beyond me.

Want to make your own style? Use the diamond skin as a template and make your own images how ever plain you want and what ever color you want.

Its both minimal and uses a dark background, so yeah, pretty close.

It doesn't touch the taskbar, doesn't touch the Min/Max/Close icons, and still using Start10 for the Start Menu.

Yeah, though looks like XP, and also prefer dark themes.

You could try this skin https://www.deviantart.com/art/7Dusk-271847209 . Might be what your looking for.

Thanks, but it appears that one is for Windows 7.

At this point I think I'm good with using the other tool, also found a .MSStyles Editor so I can tweak a few things.

I'm using 7Dusk on Win 8 and it looks perfect. Try it on 10.

I just read your thread above, the uxtheme patcher changes your system files which means you can't use WB. So I guess your new best friend is DeviantArt. Good Luck

I personally prefer something like this when it is a dark theme.  Unfortunately the screenshot is of Linux...

Nice screen shot. As far as you wanting a skin that looks like that. Easy. Make your own. SKS is a wonderful program for putting a WindowBlind together.

I still don't understand why you can't upload images to the forum straight from your computer like you can do on other sites, but I guess that's for another time and place.

WinCustomize coding is ancient, so they cannot do that. :(

Trying it one more time.  Hopefully it will work.

Nope. At least for me.

@AbKu

I don't think there is anything special about that theme. It's a nice looking screenshot, because whoever took it made a nice composition (wallpaper, theme, icons, transparency).

If you want something like that for Windows check out Pico. It's a little more rounded, but still clean. Elegantly understated as one comment points out. After a while flat can become really flat, nothing that stimulates the eye. Best of all, Pico is a free skin made by George Clooney!!!   (look closely :borg: :w00t: )
