Upgraded processor but no AOTS change

I upgraded my processor from a 6700k (4 core) to a 6900k (8 core) just so I could play all the vast maps in escalation.  Now that i have set everything up with new mobo, processor, etc, I still have only 3 vast maps.  And my benchmark scores have gone down.

Am I doing something wrong?  Why only 3 vast maps?

Are you talking about the 6-core maps which briefly turned up for some people but were greyed out? Those were never meant to be released, well, certainly not yet at any rate, so they went and are not available to anyone.

The benchmark is kind of simple compared to a vast map with loads of AI, I expect it benefits more from the 6700k's higher frequency over the 6900k's extra cores. I think in a big game the 6900k will do better, though to be honest I think you'd be fairly hard pressed to put the game into a position that the 6700k couldn't handle. If you run the game's CPU focused benchmark the results might be more interesting and should favour the 6900k by a fair margin.

You could overclock the 6900k for a bit more single core goodness. I think the 6800k overclocks to 4.0Ghz fine so makes for a good gaming and production system. For peak gaming performance the 6900k's single core frequencies are a bit too slow. Off the top of my head I don't know how much it comfortably clocks to though.

Quick graph on Ashes you might find interesting for comparison:

(If you only have 2 sticks of RAM make sure your RAM sticks are in the right slots, otherwise the dual channel bandwidth loss can hurt performance a lot(If you have 4 sticks I guess it will use quad channel automatically))

For the benchmark the higher clocks are probably better, I'm not sure how much Ashes benefits from having more than 4 cores right now. There are only 3 vast maps right now that I know of.

I would say the "6 core maps" just were not completed or are for a DLC. It probably wasn't intended for them to be in a release build.

I upgraded from a FX 63xx, to an 8320 and gained 8 FPS. Not alot, but I multitask a lot so I wanted extra cores.  For a big gain in FPS, get a new Video card. Cant see why youd upgrade the CPU for vast maps, Seems like that would be Video card memory and maybe system memory.. Now if there are events, or functions built into the map?  What constitutes an 6 core map?   Not getting why youd need more cores for a vast map.. Think Memory right?

Gaming benchmark drop is expected. The 6700K is Skylake at higher clocks; the 6900K is Broadwell (older) at lower clocks. Unless you're doing something else besides gaming that can really use the extra cores, I'd go get your 6700K back.

They were probably all 14 player max size maps which would slow down a lot of systems quite a bit. With lots of units it'd get very taxing for nearly all CPUs. They were originally seen in November so probably won't be seen again for a while, but maybe they'll appear again soon because of the Ryzen CPUs having more cores.

Wow thanks a lot guys.  When I saw the greyed-out vast maps, and Ashes told me that I needed at least a six core processor to run them, I started looking at Broadwell-e.  But then Ryzen was on the frontier so I thought I'd wait.  Now that Ryzen doesn't do well on Ashes (at least for now - I realize Ashes Devs say they are optimizing for Ryzen and seeing good results), I decided to just splurge on the Broadwell-e.

Now that I know there are no more vast maps at least for now, and there is no reason to expect that the new vast maps will require six or more cores.  If they do, and when they come out, maybe the Coffee Lake six core or the Kaby-x chips will be out.  Who knows?  I do believe that there is no reason for me to upgrade to a six or more core chip at this time.  So, as jjandra suggests, I will return the Broadwell-e and reinstall my 6700k.

For those trying to interpret why my 6900k scores are below the 6700k, my Broadwell-e rig has 32GB (4x8) 3200 memory and a gigabyte X-99 Ultra Gaming mobo and my 6700k rig had 16GB (2x8) 3000 memory and a gigabyte z170x-Gaming 7 mobo.

Thanks again all.

The biggest factor is video card. I have a 4790k quad core and it's more than enough to handle AOS. Any I5 (Haswell and above) or Rizen can handle AOS and if you want performance you need a better video card.

I don't have problems with 970 gtx and I don't see myself upgrading the system very time soon.

I upgraded from an FX-6350 to an FX-8350 and in heavy games my framerate has jumped from 20 FPS to 40 FPS. GPU is 3GB GTX 780.

I upgraded from a 6320 to an 8320 and got 8 PFS. I only have a GTX950 so my video card is holding me back.

I can make you some vaste maps if you want, you can make them yourself but would not start on a vaste map (write: -modding in launch option under ptoperties, steam in libaery right click the game). You need at least 16gb ram I think. I have made some maps thta is mp only dou to AI can play them (some areas need orbital capture and ground forced can not access them if they where not built there) read me gives info about how to install

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B4V5X9R5HkxzNFpiNzNicC1SR0E also done changes to ingame maps that is now in the game with my changes.
