You're my heroes!

BTW, I didn't list names by importance to me but by alphabetical order since you all are so important in your own ways as well as many others here I failed to mention and to try and pick a favorite is like trying to choose if you like your wife or daughter better...nope...not gon' do it.

Sorry, didn't mean to take up too much unnecessary space for this thread to extol your virtues or embarrass ya all but I just love your work[s] and I was wondering if you have any advice about making skins and walls etc.? And when did you first start? Were you the great ones you are now when you first started or did you feel like a small little fish trying to swim upstream like I do about now?

OH. And, a one response reply is plenty for me. I look forward to any tidbits you might offer as far as knowledge. I'm working on a Windowblinds skin that seems like an eternity to get right. I change ONE thing and then ten kazillion other things have to be changed in accordance. Guess I'm a bit anal sometimes. (Hope I can say that without repercussions).

Well, have a great weekend regardless!

Hi SweetDreams
Thank you for your kind words

I like to tell you one thing.

I have done my first skin (XP Professional) without having WindowBlinds to test it or Skin Studio to help me. I didn't even understand some English terms, English it is not my natural language.

What more can I say to you for help? Just have fun, that's all

No....when I started I was simply brilliant...God's gift to skinning and themeing....then I awoke from my daydreaming...

All that's needed to become adept at skinning of whatever form is time and practise....it's fun to play with, and a few go on to forge a career out of their proficiency....

I'm no hero.....just a person who is willing to spend some time helping skinners and their 'community' as much as I am able...

SweetDreams: When I first started, the hardest thing to do was get a wallpaper onto a site called Skinz.org, (the original one) They had moderation there like we do here, and I got moderated all the time! I would upload what I thought was the finest piece of art ever created only to get the dreaded rejection notice listing all the things wrong with it. I often spat my dummy, but tried to learn from it.

Like Jafo, I just love what I do. It's an honour to be a moderator here.

I had to laugh when I read what you said about skinning WindowBlinds because I feel exactly the same! I have a daily battle with skinstudio, (well, more a battle with my own inabilities!) and always struggle to put a skin together.
I still have the first skin I ever made.... it's a QuickNotes skin, (notepad thingy) and when I look at it now I think aaaaahhhhh! that's awful! But it was a good place to start, and once I got the hang of it I made loads of them.

As for advice......hmmmmm.... Well, you will often hear people say "skin for yourself first and foremost", and this is good sound advice. If you make something that you would really like to use, you usually find that other people will like it too. And I always try to be a little different, I think different is good.

I look forward to seeing your WB skin, if you need a beta tester.......I'm your man. (I like to play with things before everyone else!)
If you need any help just ask. My strongest points are DesktopX and Photoshop.

/me goes hunting for that first ever skin......maybe it's still on DevArt.....I'll go look

Thanks for the kind words SD. It's a real pleasure to know that people are still getting turned on to skinning with the enthusiasm and joy you seem to have. I was addicted to Windowblinds from the first time I saw it and was making skins for it shortly after. I only made skins for my own use and was always amazed when other people downloaded them.

It's a truly rewarding pastime and you'll be surprised how easy WB skins are to make once you get into it. They do take a lot of time but the process isn't that demanding. Just take your time and don't try to rush a skin to upload it, live with it for a while to iron out any bugs and fine tune it to your preferences. Like BoXXi said, make them for yourself, that way they'll have more of a sense of purpose and functionality that ultimately will make them more useful to others.

I'd be happy to help too if you need any advice or get stuck on something in your Windowblinds skin.

...and you have a nice weekend too
