A few questions...

Hi,

6 years ago I was posting here that I was interested in Fences and was looking if it was possible to get it without Impusle. Then I found a free v1.0.1 from a review, ready to download. Today the same version is still installed on my Windows 7. I use it very basically, just 2-3 fences on desktop which never really moved all those years.

Then a few days ago I saw Fences was on Humble Bundle. After all those years I decided to spend some money on it, even if I currently don't need to update at all since current version does all what I need, like I said it's basic use, not extended. But you know, I was happy to contribute.

Now my questions are, I still haven't clicked the "Click the button to redeem on Stardock" button. How long I can keep it like this? Should I redeem now and use anytime later? This page says where I can download but I only see the free version. Again I want to avoid Impulse. Is the free trial version the same that once registered become full? I see it's 3.01 but I guess it will update to latest once installed.

I will probably want to install it only when I'll do the jump to Win10, which may take many months.

EDIT: I wonder why Microsoft never thought of adding something similar or better yet, just buy Fences from you to add it to their OS. Fences is a great utility to make a desktop looks clean and Microsoft usually like to improve in such ways so to me it would have been just logical from them to buy Fences.

Best Regards

There is no free Fences I'm guessing this is a trial. The latest version is 3.03 and right now Stardock is having a sale $4.99 for Fences.

Impulse is not a Stardock product any more. It hasn't been for many years.

I bought it already, just want to know if I should redeem the code now or if I can wait until I want to install 3.x because it can take a while. Like I said I see no reason to upgrade from 1.01 to 3.03 now on my Windows 7 system.

And for the download, yeah I meant trial. Does that trial turn into a registered version when you input a registration number or I need to download another version?

When you purchased it you should have inserted the code before you bought it.

I believe when the trial is up you will see a box that says Enter your product key and Purchase a product key.

Hopefully a Moderator will see this and give you a definitive answer or contact StarDock support. I have never use a code or used a Stardock Trial.

Personally if v1.01 works for you on Win7 stick with it but if you go to 10 you will have to upgrade.

The code you have will always be usable for Fences 3.x only (so if a 4.x came out it wouldn't cover it), so there is no gain to not using it as it comes with all the 3.x updates included (so not a 12 month thing)

Personally I would upgrade to v3 now as v1 is very old and I think has known issues with starting up on Windows 7 (as in not starting up unless you right click on the desktop first?)

The trial on install will prompt you for your serial or you can start a trial.  During the trial there should be a button somewhere to enter your license key, or you can wait until the 30 day trial is up and enter it then.  Makes no difference.

I clicked to redeem and got a 30 characters string (6x5) so I guess it will valid all time for any version 3 I'll use later.

End of Neil's quote

Reading other threads here version 3 seems to give headaches to many while my version is running stable for 6 years now. |-)
