No Mention of Subscription When I Bought Object Desktop

When I bought Object Desktop I saw no mention of a paid subscription to updates, so a little irritated to find this out after I made my purchase and ran the installer.  Also, might want to say right up front that ONE serial covers all the software ought to be plainly stated when your run the OD installer (panicked  when the programs kept asking me for a serial to activate). Also, the installer lists "Theme Manager (Free)". Is there a different version? If so why isn't it mentioned on the storefront.

Visit your Order History page to view your recent purchases. Once your product is installed and activated (instructions are in your receipt), you will see your product on this page.

The email receipt contains no such instructions.

Sorry to be a whiner.

"Access updates and betas for included software for one year."

The software is yours forever however if you wish to continue getting beta access and updates after your one year you will need to renew (at a lower price) your subscription.

But the main issue is I'm being asked for serial number for stuff that's supposed to be included in the software suite.

All you need to do is use your ObjectDesktop key to activate the included apps.

You can also use your Stardock store login email and password to activate.

I totally agree.  Ideally, the sub-products within Object Desktop, such as Start10 would never ask you for a serial once you enter the serial for Object Desktop.

The My Downloads page of the Stardock.com store shows Object Desktop, and the products that are "included", but makes no reference to re-using the Object Desktop serial to authorize various sub-products.

A simple statement such as:

Your Object Dekstop serial number is used to authorize ALL of the following products

would be helpful.

rmirabelle1, well said! Anyway, turns out that a lot of the apps are pointless and have next to no content. I'm just happy to have about 5 of them at best.

I would strongly disagree with that statement. As will a lot of folks here. I have subscribed for over 10 years. And will likely do so for years to come. I usually buy 2 or 3 years at a time. I have faith!!

Just to clarify, so after the one year subscription, I can still download and use the programs (just not the latest versions or betas) right? When purchasing I it was purchasing those set programs and you get updates for a year.

They don't stop working all together and if I do a clean install on my computer, I'll be able to install it back on after that year right (just not latest or beta versions)?

Yes, you can download and use the apps you had at the time of your subscription.

I trust ID's advice, but would strongly encourage you to download all the individual apps from store.stardock.com before your subscription expires and store them on an external drive.  Even the ones you doubt you'll ever use.  Takes the worry out of being close, no muss no fuss.

Of course, the best option is to keep your sub current. O:)
