Updating old WB skins

Windows versions ready

There aren't many new free WB skins these days.  I have around six old skins I made for XP.  Most were rated six stars, so I feel like I at least have a decent foundation to build on.  How do I go about updating them to get the Windows 7, 8, and 10 ready badge for my skins?

Please keep in mind, I am an old fart 10 years out of practice on making skins.

Thanks in advance for any help, you can offer.

Install Windows 10, Get the latest software from Stardock (WindowBlinds, SkinStudo) Open your skin(s) up in SkinStudio & edit what needs to be edited untill it looks good when applied on your machine.

-"OldNewExplorer"-application takes away the "white bits" in Win 8 & 10

Thanks for the OldNewExplorer tip.  I was curious if those "Win10 Ready", "WB7 Ready" images are given by Wincustomize after some approval process, or are they left to the discretion of the artist, when they feel that they have reached that level of compatibility?

No problems, here to assist. (If I can)

If you want to use the latest skins you have to have money. Gone are the days where skinning was fun. Now it's for profit. I have nothing against anyone being paid for their labor but it used to be different here. Not all but some of the so called Master skins are over priced for what they are. You can count the number of skinners who still offer some of their skins for free with one hand. I know I should create my own skins if I don't like it.

The number of skinners has dropped over time and skinners make skins.  Less skinners = less (free) skins.

What more skinners and more skins?  Help Stardock spread the word about skinning.  Share your desktop through social media.  Share your passion.

True words. You are right.

I have a cash flow problem, That's my problem. Working on it. Lightstar, Starone and Dave Bax share free skins. Adni18 has skins reasonably priced. Hopefully I'll be able to make a purchase or 2 going forward.

Let me say this: Lightstar and Adni18 are very kind gentleman.

Interesting and sad thread for Wincustomize, windowblinds and Stardock and customers like me.  Doesn't appear anybody considers this issue important.  Guess we're suppose to throw them all away.  Too bad, Starbucks will be losing a long time paying customer, since 2001

I have Win7 Pro and ten-fifteen skins that I either paid for or were free, that are excellent for my needs.   Not a clue how to update them for Windows 10 PRO, much less the time to learn to be skin designer while learning Win10 PRo.

If any of those skins are by vStyler or myself, let me know. We have been working on updates to Windows 10 for a few months now, and still more to go.  :)

"Too bad, Starbucks will be losing a long time paying customer, since 2001"

I feel sure the author meant Stardock will be losing a customer, but with the decrease of skinners Starbucks may have lost a few caffeine addicts as well

Sorry, I couldn't help myself  :| :omg:

P.S. I joined in 2001 too

Its good you couldn't help yourself.  Stardock and Starbuck are one in the same, right?

MOST of the windowblinds skins are user created, NOT made by Stardock. It would be up to each skinner to update his/her skins, NOT up to Stardock.  ;)

Starbucks sells coffee. And it's good, but expensive.    X|

Can anyone create an updated or new "NextOS" windowblinds skin like the one by i-Umami found here :

https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/windowblinds/6989/

I've so far been unable to contact i-Umami about updating this skin.  I've been using it for a very long time, and I love it, but it really needs to be updated for Windows 10.  Can someone help?

Unfortunately djthomas55, due to copyright laws no one can update it but the original author.  :S

Stardock's 'responsibility' is to update their programs to conform with the new OS releases [as and when that is possible].

The content [skins] has always primarily been created by the Skinning Community, not Stardock.

Where Skinners are continuing to create/upload works there will be content supporting the new OS versions.....;)

Now, re 'Starbucks' .... no, the coffee is utter rubbish - to the point where I fear  Americans really have no idea what coffee is.

Certainly if you think that tasteless muck is coffee there is no hope for you...;)

This thread has been officially hijacked by coffee fanatics.  Mountain Dew is my caffeine fix.

While we are on the subject of updating WB skins, do you think there has been a decline of
"skinning" or modifying later versions of Windows in general?   :maybe:

Yes, I do believe there's a decline in skinning.  Use to be all sorts of people were making them, now seems like only a few.

One of my favorite skinners is "Essorant".  Tried reaching him/her a few times, but no response.  Current blind in use is "Laguna", and listed by Stardock Design.  Will Stardock Design be updating their Windowblinds to Win 10?
