Win 10 major problem after uninstalling Start 10 (upgraded form Start 8)

After uninstalling Start 10 my ASUS laptop running 64bit Win 10 Home, I get a big yellow pop-up when hitting the Start Icon (bottom left). Error message says that the start button no longer works and to do a reboot. After reboot, same problem happens repeatedly. Do I need to reinstall Win 10???

Thanks,

Jan

There is a known flaw in Windows 10 where the start menu can break itself especially with upgrade installs from Windows 8.

I should point out that removing Start10 had nothing to do with this, Start10 was probably masking the issue as I assume you were using the Windows 7 style options in Start10 and so not using the OS menu.

There are articles on the web about fixing this but a clean install may be your best solution unfortunately.

Thank you so much Neil. It certainly appears you were right. I did a Windows 10 repair (update) run after uninstalling Start 10. I had done an upgrade from Windows 8 to 10 and I now agree that Start 8 and 10 were most likely masking that problem. After updating Win 10 it fixed that problem and several others I was experiencing in the GUI. Time now to reinstall Start10

UPDATE:

After updating Win10 (effectively reinstalling it) when I try to reinstall Start 10 it tells me to reboot to finish uninstall. I reboot, then the setup for Start10 repeats this message, so I can never install Start10. I have even run Revo uninstaller Pro, which did find a bunch of left over Start10 or Start8 files and folders, but it did not allow me to then run the Start10 installer successfully. Anybody have any ideas?
