I just took it down to where I used it for shadows and fade effects and disabled everything else. I didn't have any problems with DX (and I too really like it) until the last update of WB and then it went wacko....

One further thought about FX...I disabled any proggies that it seemed to effect. You can do that in 'App. exclusions"

Thanks yrag for your responses.I wish you well on your DX adventure.I followed a couple of threads of late about DX and you might be in for one heck of a LiteSTEP battle. As for FX,eye candy that drops all window content on restore,I guess I'll have to wait for another alpha or beta,,the vicious circle feeds on itself.

brazil: Have you enabled fall back mode in WFX? You have an Nvidia card and their drivers are extremely buggy in the bits that WFX needs. I have a ti4600 and a Radeon 8500. The Radeon is smooth and fast. The ti4600 has delays in transtions and other issues. Stardock has been waiting for Nvidia to fix it's drivers for a long time now. It's not something Stardock can fix. They have already provided fall-back mode specifically to get round these problems.

Thanks pipowell I'll defiantly give that a look see.I've been looking at the same drivers on the Nvidia site since December 3rd.I guess the fall-back mode is an option in the FX program itself?I guess I overlooked it.Going to see,,,,

Getting back to SD Central...

One thing that makes me CRAZY is the new default installation directory crap. WHy is SD deciding where my software is installed?

I want the option to install ALL stardock/ODNT apps by default in ONE location. As it stands now, by not manually installying each one, I have THREE locations, and it aggravates me.

As for the bugginess, hey, we're on the bleeding edge here, running up-to-the-minute alphas and betas. Things are gonna go wrong. My suggestion to Stardock would be to create an archive of ANY app that is updated through SDC automatically, so that if an update sends a system into a tailspin, a rollback is a one-button process.

stark23x:Right on.After installing the latest WB version update thru the Component Manger I'm gettin kinda confused,,or should I say even more confused that usual. Now that it has been brought to my attention there are at least two places you might find WB skins, where will my system reach for them next? The SDC chosen file or the Component Managers chosen file.I think the issue of restoring earlier versions is being covered in the Stardock Central thread,I think.Sorry I didn't mean to hijack yer thread.

stark23x: You can set the directory to install to in the config. Or you can set it to ask for every install. It's up to you. I have had it switch a couple of times but going in and resetting the path brought it back in line again.

I think some of you with the most serious WB errors wight have two versions. Check for a c:\...\object desktop and a c:\...\stardock\object desktop folder and see if you have duplicate programs. I did last week, 2 WB and 2 skin studios among others. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled using only stardock central and no more problems, but man is that annoying, they should know better! >

NOTICE: Please try Refreshing Application Data. It appears SDC is not properly auto fetching the data files. I think this will clear up many of the install issues.

T-Man: Is there any reason why it can't autorefresh for you?

Um.... when I refreshed my application data it changed so that I have 3.98(b) installed and 3.5 available. Before I was thinking, I clicked 3.5... but I canceled it. There is still a second windows 3.98 available there as before (so there are two windowblind application lines, one with a windowblind icon and one with a data icon as in the screenshot).

GM, make sure that you have it set to view pre-released versions (it sounds like you don't)

Also, for everyone, it is most helpful if people report issues to: support@stardock.com
WC is *not* an official support channel for Stardock products, and is not always read by the developers/support. There is also a "support" form in SDCentral under: Help>online support> submit problem which adds info to your email that we need when trying to resolve your issue.

I don't have problems with DX or WFX they run great on my system(knock on wood)... what are these bugs you speak of im confused... and i've been using windowblinds, Wfx, DX, since version prior to version 1.0 on all of them... hmmm... Object Bar, and DX were very buggy prior to the 1.0 release, but they caused problems that requred a system restore, or anything of the sort. hmmm... im just a little confused...

Will do, KG.....

WFX runs like a dream for me.... I am totally awed by it. I also am not too worried about minor problems now since I have trust that Stardock will fix it soon. ...actually /me has more faith in Stardock programing than in her own flu-bitten brain right now (plans on refraining from too many fancy stuffs 'till lucid thought reigns).

da_zman20, the problems they are reported are real (remember that SDCentral is in its final beta stages). T-Mans suggestion of: "NOTICE: Please try Refreshing Application Data. It appears SDC is not properly auto fetching the data files. I think this will clear up many of the install issues." Should fix it.

ummm.............. I was going to send something, but then the last refresh leaves the beta and the pre-release showing (both with correct icons). I think that should be right. There was a SC update this morning, so maybe that fixed it. I have had the pre-release option checked from the beginning.

/me doesn't plan to push the update button until later on... when thought is dependable.

Ack - sorry to hear that your skins disappear when you uninstall/update Windowblinds, Brazil. Odd, really - every time a new version comes out, I switch to Windows Classing and then I uninstall the old one, and install the new one, all from within Component Manager - and I've never lost my skins.

Quite happy with CM, personally. I love you Stardock guys, but after some of the grief I've had with the Windowblinds 4 alpha (none with the beta yet!) I'm holding off on SDC - I'm through running prerelease software for awhile! ^_^

/me thinks running pre-release stuff is fun.... when there are challenges is is like a really good game solving them so everything runs again (something about the untangling of things with a real-time consequence **my beloved pc***).

...then again I have never been the most stable; nor the brighest burning bulb on the block.....

Thanks for the email addy, KG. Got it copied now!

The skins are probably not gone, they are probably in a different directory that WB can't find. Search for wbload.exe and see if there are two install directories. One probably is the working one (with the newest .exe) and the other is where the old skins are. You just have to move the skins to the new directory.

"goodmorphing thinks running pre-release stuff is fun.... when there are challenges"

I'm getting enough of that trying to get KDE 3.1.1 to compile on my FreeBSD notebook!

2 days, and still trying to compile kdelib! Yay!
