[1.7 opt-in] Planet economy

First move of the game, never pressed "Turn"

1: I change my Govern -Economy wheel to all reaserach

2: My home planet economy is 0 / 17,9 / -0,9 (top part of the pic)

3: I press on manufacturing and I get 6,8 / 20,3 / -0,9 (bottom part of the pic)

It's not just a display bug, on pic one my research lab project build time is N/A and on the second pic it's 9 turns.

Is anyone else getting this?

Two things are going on:

  • The focus settings on the planet screen modify the spending for just that world.   So you've set the research to be 100% empire wide which leaves nothing for manfacturing. Setting the manufacturing focus shifts the balance so there's production for manufacturing.
  • When you shift the overall spending to all research, you are getting a pretty hefty coercion penalty. By choosing a manufacturing focus, you are making the spending on that planet to be more balanced which reduces the coercion penalty.  That's why the research is higher in the second screen.

Let me know if this helps.

Is this actually intended?  That coercion actually decreases (in this case) research faster than the wheel increases it?

I don't actually mind, I can work around it now that I know it's not a bug, but seems like a design that is extremely unfriendly to new players.

Setting your wheel to 100% research is actually counterproductive.  You can get almost the same about of raw research while also getting wealth / manufacturing by setting it to a lower value.  Personally I run 44M - 44R - 12W most of the time, it's pretty efficient.
