Ashes 0.63 Sandbox

Have you wanted a Sandbox mode for Ashes so you can test out various unit combinations and defense configurations? With the Sandbox map I created, you can.

Download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3COOirjZWXLNUNDRU1LVmVFWG8/view?usp=sharing

The zip file contains a README and a new map called "Cage_Match". You customize the Assets/MapScripts/Cage_Match.xml to build various unit groups and building configurations however you wish. Then just start a new match on that map and let the Sandboxing begin!

Assets/MapScripts/MapScriptsStub.xml contains some helpful documentation to help in editing the MapScripts XML file.

Some things I found:

  • You can take out a single smarty with 3 squads of brutes, 2 squads will fail.
  • It takes 5 squads of Archers to take out a Smarty, 4 squads will fail.
  • Cronus is the best dreadnought, at least when fighting two equally-sized and composed battle groups (or is it?).
  • Bug: Sometimes all the units stop shooting at a unit or building that is almost dead!
  • Bug?: There is a minimum range for some weapons, like the Cronus missles and Prometheus main cannon.
  • Bug: Scorch marks persist on maps when you start a new game without exiting the game.

There's a lot more you can do with this beyond just sandboxing, but I will leave that to you to figure out on your own because I'm not sure how much the devs will like us having this kind of power.

Nice idea.

You can take out a single smarty with 3 groups of brutes
It takes 5 groups of Archers to take out a Smarty
End of quote

I might be being stupid but can you give a little more context to those?

On face value:

2 groups of brutes would die while trying unsuccessfully to kill a Smarty?

4 groups of Archers would die while trying unsuccessfully to kill a Smarty?

That make the Smarty tougher than I thought, or Archers a lot weaker than I thought.

Okay thanks, I updated the OP to clarify.

Yes, 2 groups of brutes would die unsuccessfully killing a Smarty.

Yes, 4 groups of archers would die unsuccessfully killing a Smarty.

Brutes spawn in squads of 4 units, archers in squads of 3. So that means 8 brutes will lose, or 12 archers will lose.

I have not yet done much with mixed groups. But now with this sandbox that is trivial. You can imagine half archers and half brutes, with the brutes taking most of the damage, might work out best.

Cool will try it.
