Unable to reinstall IconPackager 5

Hi,

I used IconPackager for years. My SDD crashed a few days ago and I changed it. A new Windows 8.1 is now OK (same system as before) but when I want to install IconPackager I get this : "The following minimum system requirements for this setup were not met : operating system : Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2. The setup will now abort

In ODM IconPackager is marked as "not compatible" !!

I've done sfc /scannow but nothing wrong, I try compatibility mode with no results.......

Please help, I can't imagine to stay without my favorite soft ! X(

IconPackager is not compatible with Windows 8 and above. It won't install now to avoid people having issues with it on those systems.

I don't understand... It worked perfectly a few days ago with the same system !I made the first install 2 years ago on Windows 8

Is there a way to bypass ?

That is really odd ID, I have had IconPackager installed on Windows 8.1 for over two years with no issues. It shows up as just fine in ODM also.

If you were to uninstall IP then tried to install again it won't let you. I can understand that it won't work on Win 10 but a lot of people are using it on Win 8 including me.

Those who have it can keep using it. Just don't uninstall it 'cause if you do......done.

Done !!!!!! Just run "compatibility" again and check "Windows XP SP3" instead of Seven (my first try). It works !!!!!!

I can't speak for support, but I for one, can tell you that if you guys did try to uninstall, for some reason, your icons would be FUBAR. Trust me. Been there, done that, had to reinstall my OS due to it. I am not alone, either.

This may be why they don't want you installing it.

Even on Win 8? I have it installed on my laptop and desktop both with 8.1 and it works fine for me.

Because you already have it installed. Its after uninstalling it that the problems arise.

I understand that now. I just wanted to know why that they added 8.1 to the non-compatible list.

Al, again, I'm guessing. But I'd say it's not compatible due to the mess it makes on uninstall.

Because any OS above Win 7 is vulnerable. For some reason IP digs into an icon cache in an attempt to change all the icons and messes with Windows ability to reset them to the defaults. I may be guessing here but that's what it sounds like.

That has been a consistent issue, ignored for YEARS now. The reason I have avoided it like the plague that it is. It borked my system 1 to many times.

"IconPackager is not compatible with Windows 8 and above."

Then maybe it should be posted on the webpage stating that it is NOT compatible with win 8 & above.

System Requirements

Windows 7/Vista

https://www.stardock.com/products/iconpackager/

And even that claim is a bit of a stretch. IP has never handled Live Folders correctly, and has at times failed to install a complete IP package, leaving some of the previous package still installed.

Plus, as stated above, uninstalling IP will leave you with issues I am sure you'd rather not have to deal with.

I think a really BIG problem is that the system requirements are listed at the bottom of the web page where some people will not even bother to look because there is a "Get It Now" button right there at the top of the page.

System requirements should be listed directly below the "Get It Now" button in ALL cases, it just makes good business sense to do so.  :-"

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO THIS WITH ICONPACKAGER 5.x on Windows 10 or 8.x!

IconPackager 10 is designed for those platforms and must be used.  IP5 will break a Windows 8/10 Windows install if used which his why it is blocked from installing.
