Why do I have to pay in order to remove Deskscapes?

I just tried to install Windows 10, but was told I had to remove Deskscapes 3 first. I haven't actualy used Deskscapes for ages but, to my astonishment it seems impossible to uninstal.

Can it be true that Stardock require me to renew my subscription in order to uninstall their software?

Surely not. I mean, what software house on the planet would want it to be known that one has to pay money in order to uninstall their software?

You might want to email support@stardock.com on this and wait for a non-automated reply.

The point being, of course, that I shouldn't have to.

You can try ODNT Zapper app.

If that doesn't work then email support and start a trouble ticket.

Cos your PC is no longer an active advertisement for Deskscapes.... like people aren't gonna come up and ask: "Oh wow, where would I get a proggie like that?"

That's why yer gotta pay to uninstall it... lost revenue.   :-" :w00t: ;P

Nah, seriously, what the other guys suggested.  Try ODNT Zapper first, and if that fails lodge a ticket with support

Just a suggestion, it shouldn't matter, but have you tried deactivating DeskScapes under "manage license" first?  Worth a shot.

That option wasn't available for DS 3, Jim.

Ah, the Wiz is right. I didn't notice. 3 was so far back, I guess it didn't register with me, sorry.

That would not be normal.

For a start how would the uninstaller know when your subscription had expired?

Something has probably corrupted the uninstall information that it uses.  The OD zapper will probably do the trick, though to be honest I have no idea what Windows 10 installer is looking for as I do not believe they contacted us regarding any issues.

Contacting support@stardock.com seems like the way to go.

Not sure where you got that idea but absolutely not. Contact us, or manually remove it. More than likely, what's already been said, your install is corrupt.

Corruption is not the issue, old age is. I've also tried to uninstall Windowblinds 7 only to be told the same thing, Impulse is required. My recollection is that Impulse ceased to function some time ago - because it was sold on to another party - and I had to uninstall it for that reason. In the end I used Revo to uninstall. I haven't yet tried to uninstall other Object Desktop components.

On the face of it it seems a poor show on Stardock's part to make unusable a tool that they must know is required in order to uninstall their other software.

1. Make sure to return to the W7 default gui and icons.

2. Use the zapper. It works.

First do that, and anything else you may have changed such as your logon screen.  If you have IconPackager installed, or LogonStudio, you need to remove those as well.

Try Revo on DeskScapes and WindowBlinds 7. It won't care if you have Impulse or not. It's all I use.  Note that if you use Zapper on WB's you may want to back up all your skins somewhere first.

These are old applications you're using. Unfortunately, over time, that means they may eventually cease to function properly or uninstall properly (Due to various reasons). As I said before, you're free to contact support so we can help you or since you're comfortable with Revo, perhaps that is the easier route for you.
