Auto-arrange

Is there any way to turn off Auto Arrange in Fences? Sometimes it is good, but sometimes it make my organization difficult.

Right-click a Fence, selected Sort Fence by, and make sure 'None' is selected.

Nope, that's not it. I am not talking about sort order. I need them to be not auto arranged, so I can place them where I want.

Like I have 16 icons and I want them in 5 groups (columns). I can only do what I need by making 5 separate fences.

You want to be able to freely move the icons in the Fence itself, is that correct? That's not something Fences does.

I read all the topics on the subject for the last 5 (FIVE) years. Is it so difficult to implement the NON-AUTO-ARRANGE option ? Do you need help ? I bought the last product, Fences 2.13 only to realize that a such BY DEFAULT option is not there. How come ? I repeat, are you incapable of doing it ? DO YOU NEED HELP with that ?

Maybe the community could help you, just ask ...

Thank you !

Icons contained within a Fence NEED to move when the Fence is resized/reshaped.  If you want icons to always stay where they are put then do not use/put them in Fences.

The two concepts are mutually exclusive...;)

I would like this behavior implemented, also. While the way Fences is designed may prohibit this behavior - and may even seem to make the program be less usable in a 'smart' way, in terms of whether a user changes monitor resolutions or actual monitors - I believe that if Stardock wanted to implement this behavior in some fashion, they could do it. I'm sure there's plenty of people who simply want to keep all the icons they have on screen in the same place all the time, and that is all. :)

You'd think that by now, Windows (10) would be able to do this one thing. Just lock icons into specific places on the Desktop, regardless of shut down/reboot/sw install actions. But every once in a while, all the icons seem to get shoved into the corner in some fashion. This is not just on my own desktops over the years, but a lot of them I have had to support while doing IT.

Unfortunately, of the software that seems similar to Fences out there, none of them seem to work very well at doing this one task, either.

See....there's the point.  Whether or not 'Stardock wanted to implement this behavior' I actually don't believe it is possible at all.

The fact it hasn't been done is indicative of it not being do-able...;)

Sadly, freely arranging icons is not possible in a fence.
If something ever changes . . we'd be all over it.
