Edge and Task View missing from taskbar when Start10 running

What version of Start10 are you using as that is not normal?

0.57

That is odd as I just checked 0.57 against a Win 10 RTM and could not reproduce the problem.

We have an updated build that should be going out later today, so I would recommend trying that out when it comes out and seeing if your problem continues.

Same here with 0.99, hiding Edge and Task View.

I uninstalled Start 8 before doing the update and I have now gone and deleted any leftover folders but it's still happening.

Do you have anything else installed which may extend the taskbar?

Also what language is your install?

No, nothing installed that affects the taskbar.

PS: Clicking on the 'Show Hidden Items' in the system tray brings the hidden icons back, it's annoying but not the end of the world.

PPS: It's not anything to do with Start8 as I just installed Start10 on a machine that never had Start8 on it and the same thing is happening.

That is very odd indeed as we have many machines with Start10 on them and not a single one is showing anything even remotely similar.

Have you set your computer to show the task view button and what about the search field?  Is that set to hidden, button, or entry field?

Yep, 'show task view' and 'show search icons' are both checked.

It's happening on 5 different machines here.

Are they all clean installs with nothing else installed yet and are you using a shared Microsoft account to login?

Also 32 or 64 bit?

Also if you move the taskbar to the side and then back again does it fix itself?

EDIT: It seems to have stopped happening now, not really sure why but I haven't seen it on any of the machines for over 10 minutes.

So once you have hit show hidden icons the problem goes away and does not come back until you log out / reboot?

No it was coming and going but as I said in my edit above, it seems to have stopped on all machines and I can't figure out why, very strange.

If it happens again try setting it so the taskview icon is disabled and likewise the search one.  See if the problem continues.  If not try showing one of them and again see.

I'm having the same issue on 4 devices (1 laptop and 3 desktops), all of which I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  Every now and again, all of the icons (task view, edge, etc.) suddenly disappear from the task bar.  I have to disable the task view icon to get them to return, but I enable it again right afterwards.  A reboot may or may not be successful.  When it happens again, I will try leaving task view disabled to see if that helps.

Edit:  I'm using the latest version.  I just downloaded it yesterday.  I think it's .99.

I lost my icons shortly after my last post.  It happened this time while I was browsing with Firefox.  I unchecked Task View and everything returned except, of course, Task View.  So far so good, but without Task View.

It went away for a while but it has now returned, there doesn't seem to be any way to replicate it, it just happens.

I tried unchecking Task view and it seemed OK, 30 minutes later and Edge had vanished again.

Definitely seems to be something to do with Start10 as removing it solves the problem.

I know it's early days so it's no big deal, hopefully someone will find a solution.

Just got home from work and the task bar icons were gone again, after leaving Task View unchecked all day.  I rechecked Task View and unchecked it again, and everything came back except, of course, Task View.  .99 and English, by the way.

I haven't had the problem in a few hours.  The only thing I did was turn of the auto-hide feature of the task bar on my machines having the problems.  Now that the task bar is displayed all of the time, I haven't lost the icons.  I don't know if that means anything or if it has been long enough to know anything for sure, but it's worked for me all evening.

The problem is that I really like my taskbar set to 'autohide' and I'd rather live with the missing icons than disable it

The disappearing icons tend to happen right after the taskbar 'autohides'

I like mine to auto-hide, as well, but I suppose I'll keep it unhidden until the problem is fixed.

I found that edge is only missing from taskbar when any other button selection other  than the windows 10 start button is used

Well, it's been enough time now.  It does seem to be related to auto hide.  I've not had one issue on my machines since unchecking it.  Hopefully we'll see a fix for that in an upcoming release as I like my task bar to auto hide.  I can live without it in the meantime, though.

Yep, I can confirm that it has something to do with the 'autohide the taskbar' flag.

Doesn't happen when it's disabled.

This should be addressed in 1.0 now we know what the trigger was.
