First Week w/ Fences - Questions

Hi all,

I've been using Fences for about a week (with Windows 10 TP) and just purchased a license. Here's a few questions I hope someone can help with.

  • The license. It activated on two of my PCs, but is the license for two PCs or do I need to purchase another? I will actually need it on probably 3x PCs, but only one is actively used at a time.
  • Is there a way to backup snapshots (whether built in, through the registry or a file)? This is for when I clean install Windows, which I do quite often. Also, I'd like to be able to transfer these between PCs.
  • Icon size seems to be universal with all fences. Is there a way to get different icon sizes in different fences? I found one workaround to create a Portal of shortcuts located in some other folder. I actually did this for links to Dropbox folders to prevent accidental deletion of files.
  • I think I saw this requested on another post, but a user defined hotkey to bring fences (or just one) to the front would be cool! Sure, WIN+D will show the desktop and WIN will bring up a way to search, but for folders, a way to bring a fence of shortcuts to the foreground to click to launch, then it goes away.

Thanks!

I'd like to know the answer as well.

-If personal PC's, you can activate up to 5 times(5 PCs total).

-You can locate your Backups, to backup, in the directory below:

C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Stardock\Fences

-There is no way to increase individually, the size of the icons.

-Thank you for the feedback.

The_Gear,

Just trying to understand your reply.

I have Fences running on a Window 8 computer. Fences was a component of a one year subscription of Object Desktop that has expired. I assume that the subscription allowed me to access upgrades to OD components, that Fences will continue to run at the present version until I do the Win 10 upgrade and then require an updated version of Fences to maintain its functionality, which I will not be able to access because of the expired subscription.

I want to propagate Fences to my other two PCs (I do not want to install Object Desktop), one of which has already been updated to Win10.

I have been trying to figure out how many copies of Fences I need to buy. I assumed that the Fences license was a single PC license. Does the fact that you can install Fences 5 times really mean you can reinstall on the one PC 5 times, or that you can install one copy on 5 separate PCs (ie the activation process cannot distinguish between a reinstall on one pc and the other and therefore installing on multiple pcs might be contrary to the license)? The former will require me to buy only 1 license whereas the latter will require me to buy 3.

I have checked the Stardock EULA which I assume applies to all Stardock products which I should have done before posting and confirmed that your interpretation of using Fences on 5 PCs is indeed accurate. Now the only thing between me and a new license for Fences is to decide whether I buy a license for version 2 now or wait until version 3 is available.
