Fences 2.13 compatible with new Windows 10?

Hi, I just received an invitation to reserve a copy of Windows 10 and I was wondering if Fences is compatible or if I would have to give it up if I get Windows 10. Or would I have to reconfigure it?

Hey,

I'm using Windows 10 with Fences 2.13.

It does work, but the startup process is very strange. When you start your PC and see the desktop, the fences just do not show up at all, also after waiting very long. The only way i found to get the fences visible is by right-clicking the desktop.

But that is the only problem I found however. If you don't mind right-clicking your desktop every time you start your computer, you're safe to upgrade.

Fences is compatible with Windows 10, and we'll be having news soon about Fences 3.

I'm experiencing the same lag at startup that samuvisser is seeing.  When I log into Windows 10 I have to wait 2-3 minutes for anything on the desktop to show up properly.  Sometimes it will flash a few icons here and there but after a while when I right click it the Fences displays correctly.

Is Fences 2.13 Win10 compatible?  Sure.  Is it the same experience as Windows 7?  Definitely not.  I'm hoping for a 2.14 version that is a much better start-up experience.  I shouldn't have to wait several minutes to use my desktop.

Edit: I have 430 objects (folders and first level files/icons) on my desktop.  That may make a big difference.

I too am experiencing the same issues. A ticket was opened for me and I was told to run a .bat file which completely uninstalled Fences. I was told to download and reinstall the latest version. So after that, Fences does not work at all any more.  I can't create a fence at all...nothing happens.  I've checked the Event Viewer and can see that windows 10 is crashing.

So I've let support know, but as of yet I have not heard back.

breed92014 - It sounds like your Win10 install may need to be re-done.

You have a separate issue than breed. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Stardock and delete the folder for Fences. Then reactivate your app.

I just installed the latest version. It functions but all the bugs aren't quite worked out--mostly menu glitches and conflicts with my desktop graphics. I love fences so I hope Stardock works the kinks out soon!

I have same problem as Samuel (second post) but there is no lag time - The icons initially show up in their correct locations but minus the Fences skin. after a bit of double and right clicking the fences skin turns up and all is well again. I use the auto hide setting.

We need an upgrade!

it helps to read a whole forums before you comment.

why do you think a fences 3 is in the works besides the fact its long overdue for an update anyways.things are progressively being rewritten for 10.older ones will work but they will have issues as they are for windows 8.1.windows 10 although it doesnt seem like it is way different from windows 8 and windows 7

be patient.considering theyve already worked on a few releases now and its only been less than a month out,id say thats cause for celebration considering.

I can't get rid of the "mirror" copies on my 1st page.

I have 2 monitors and 4 "desktop pages" with all my Fenced Items on page 3 and 4.

My Problem???

They are ALL mirrored on my 1st page and can't delete them.

I'm new to Fences but I didn't have this problem until I updated to Windows 10.

What good is it to have Fences when they duplicate themselves on my 1st page?

Any Ideas for a newb to Fences?

Thanks in advance.

I think most people do but it surely helps to further post slight differences in how the bug manifests itself!

Secondly most folk have a life to get on with and dont live on this forum to get to know the update strategy of Stardock, so perhaps a little tolerance is due.

Turn off the pages feature, or, start fresh. That may be the quickest way.

I had the 'blank desktop on startup' bug on only one of the two computers I've upgraded from Win7 to Win10. The 'good' computer was on the latest version of Fences and upgraded fine. I'd not realised the other computer was on 'Fences Pro' which is out of date. I missed it as 'check for updates' in Fences said there weren't any, which was unhelpful. So I accidentally upgraded to Win10 on top of Fences Pro which seems to be a bad idea.

Once in Win10, I upgraded Fences Pro to the latest. It looked OK but as Windows was shutting down, a crash error appeared (unreadably quickly) and the desktop died. On reboot, the startup splash screen and one segment of the start button icon (Start10) isnow a strange orange colour that I can't fix. Fences is fine, though, if I ignore the new orange colour accents here and there !

In summary, make sure Fences is really on the latest version before an in-place upgrade to Win10.

I'll wait for a new version of Fences... The latest doesn't work well on Windows 10.

Thank You , The_Gear , it turned out to be a "bad" install of Win 10.

I Most Sincerely appreciate your super fast response and apologize for my delay in teaching you. YOU are quite valuable to me and I hope someday to be able to do the same with someone else. Too many snub their noses to newbies but not you. I applaud and thank you again your support.
