Am I the Only One with Constant Crashing?

I have a game I started on v1.0 (because it wasn't stable loading my v0.96 saves).  1.0 would lock up occasionally, but v1.01 locks up constantly. Twice now, it crashed before running even long enough to generate an auto-save. Symptoms are usually the whole UI freezing, though this evening I had the novelty of the mouse still moving around. I don't see many others complaining about experiences anywhere near this bad. Is it really only my system?  Win7, Haswell, native wimpy-but-adequate GPU.

No for me the last beta was pretty stable crashing only after 4 or 5 hours of continual play, 1.0 locked up once on me but never crashed, and I can honestly say 1.01 has never crashed on me. Are you playing single or multiplayer and if the former are you on sandbox or campaign.

I generally play on single player sandbox. Do you only get crashes with your old save game or when starting a new game?

I have Windows 7, a GTX295 graphics, 6Gb Ram card and an old quad core processor.

Have you raised a support ticket? Some of these crashes can be pretty system specific and opening a support ticket attaching crash bumps, etc might help Stardock to find your issue.

Also you could try validating your local files through steam, as it could be you have a corrupt file that it needs to replace.

I have not had a crash in 1.0. Sorry, I empathize with how frustrating that can be.

And don't get me wrong I also feel for you, I've had these sort of issues with other games, hence my suggestions on how you might get to the bottom of it. Do you know how to validate the local files through Steam? I actually did get crashes like this with XCOM: Enemy Within after a patch once and it turned out to be a corrupt file that Steam found and replaced when I did Validate Local Files so it's worth checking out.

Thanks, guys. I ran the validate (took me a while to find the tab with the option), and it reported and repaired two invalid files.  We'll see how it plays now.

Make sure you try 1.02 also. Lots of good stuff. :)

Sigh.  Didn't stop it from wedging, though. :o(   Anyway, thanks, guys.  I hadn't seen that there was a bug reporting page around here or I wouldn't have troubled y'all.

I am also occasionally getting crashes, it helps to set the option to make an autosave every turn. If it crashes I just restart, with my SSD the game starts up quite fast.

If you still have crashes after the 1.02 update, please see the troubleshooting guide on how to submit a ticket so we can look into it.

I have had one CTD with 1.02 playing a game started in 1.0.    I had autosave at 5 turns so I wasn't close to the "crash" spot.   However, I sent in the troubleshooting data as it seems, particularly on an opt-in, that you guys  want the dump and support files regardless.  Obviously a save game just before a repeatable crash is easier to work with, but cannot always be provided.

I restarted with fresh game with 1.02 and no problems so far.

The game keeps crashing during loading a game-save when I am already playing a game, but otherwise 1.0 is stable for me.

@paralogos

are you able to alt-tab out of gc3 when it crashes or do you have to reboot the system?

When first released my game had some terrible crashes, I don't think I could even make it twenty minutes before a crash. These crashes required a computer restart everytime too because I couldn't get task-manager up, really sucked. Then I reduced my resolution a little, ran in windowed fullscreen, disabled V-sync, and turned down the 4x AA.

Also, make sure your video drivers are updated.

So, how does the repair of invalid files actually work?  After they were detected and the Steam program told me they would be repaired, I launched GalCiv, then quit (without loading a game - should this matter?).  I re-rand the check, and the files were still flagged as invalid. When do they get "repaired".  I've enabled and loaded the v1.02 patch, will try again this weekend, and will report as per Island Dog's post.

FWIW, in my case, I never lose control of the whole machine.  The "three finger salute" gets me to where I can open the Task Manager and kill the game, which *is* running, chewing up CPU cycles in what I assume is some kind of deadlock.

What should happen is after it finishes scanning, it the requires any corrupted files straight away by downloading them. Maybe you need to do a disk-check if it's saying the files are corrupted again. Have you manually edited any of the local files in the past, and do you have any mods?

No mods.  No manual edits. It's a raid drive, so I don't expect there to be issues with media corruption.  I've never done a de-install/re-install from Steam.  Is there a procedure?
