Uninstall WindowsBlinds 9 beta failed; install WindowBlinds 8.1 fails

I installed WindowBlinds 9.095.0 beta a couple of days ago and have been attempting to get it to be stable. Windows seem to autospastically minimize and if I didn't know better I would swear there was a tiny AI in there doing the minimizing at the most inappropriate moments. Anyway, when the WindowBlinds 8.1 announcement popped up in my email box I decoded to switch over.

Unfortunately the Windowblinds9 uninstaller seems to uninstall itself and then reports that it doesn't have access rights to required files. It leaves the WindowBlinds service running so an attempt to install WindowBlinds 8.1 fails. I managed to shutdown the service and delete the associated files and clean out the obvious Windowsblinds 9 stuff from the registry. A reboot seems to show a clean slate insofar as WindowsBlinds is concerned.

Unfortunately the WindowBlinds 8.1 installer is not so easily satisfied and throws up the following error dialog very soon after it is executed:

---------------------------
irsetup
---------------------------
Encountered a sharing violation while accessing C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\WindowBlinds\WBInstall32.exe.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Note that I normally install WindowBlinks to another drive altogether but when I encountered the error during such an installation I figured I would try again using the default location. That is what the above error message reflects.

Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Evan

Where did you ever find windowBlinds 9. The latest one ever available is 8.1

Well ya know that is a very good question! I know that the entry in the "My Downloads" list was "WindowBlinds 9.095.0 beta" because I use an ahk script that creates a file name for the download using the text I mark on  the web page and and the actual file name and the result in this case was:

WindowBlinds 9.095.0 beta (WindowBlinds_8.095_beta_setup_sd).exe

Having said that I also have to admit that I can see that the actual file name does not, in fact, reflect the link text. I just missed that completely and blame my aging eyes. Also, I see that the beta link text no longer appears on the "My Downloads" page so it is possible that I am being plagued by the pranks of the wee people.

However, given this adjustment to my previous problem report, I am still faced with the same problems, just not from a beta investment of WindowBlinds.

Actually I believe there may have been a 8.09 hard to keep up sometimes with the numbers. Hopefully tomorrow a support person may see this. Might be a good idea to send  a support ticket. https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit

Well that is awfully kind of you! Where else would I get that kind'a support?

Based on your ticket submission, Brad contacted me via e-mail this morning and turned me on to a WindowBlinds installation purge tool and using that I managed to get a WindowBlinds 8.1 installation up'n'runnin! I am a happy camper.

Mega thanks,

evan
