Music Review: Ashley Parker Angel "Let U Go"

Let U Go
Album: Soundtrack of Your Life
Year: 2006
Ashley Parker Angel sees his relationship for what it is in the indifferent “Let U Go.”
Irate guitars open the single, setting a disgruntled tone. His phone rings. He wonders what’s going on. She told him she would meet him at nine pm. It’s a little after and he hopes she’s ok. She tells him she won’t be able to make it after all. It’s the sixth date she’s broken in two months. He’s hardly seen him. She doesn’t seem to care. She does what she wants. He sits on his chair and cries. (“Broken promises/But you don't really mind/It's not the first time/And you know it, don't you know/Tell me why it is you only smile inside/But when you break me into nothing/Don't you know.”)
In the pre-chorus, he has googled relationship articles on the Internet about better communication. He has compromised each time. However, they would argue about where to eat and what he was wearing. Regardless, it can’t continue. He has to end it. (“It's not like I haven't tried/Over and over again/Stupid fights/Wrong or right/Goodbye.”)
In the chorus, they are far from the couple when they first made love. She held him close and said she wanted to be with him. It’s just him she could see. However, their empty conversations leave him grasping for something to hold. She’s a great person and he doesn’t want to hurt but the damage has been done. (“I remember when you came with me that night/We said forever, that you would never let me go/But here I am again/With nothing left inside/No I don't wanna but I gotta let you go.”)
Despite their difficulty, he doesn’t regret dating her. He learned what he didn’t want. So many sleepless nights and hazy days when he couldn’t think of what to do. He’s aware of what to red flags to look for. She says the words but doesn’t mean them. (“You're the one mistake/I really didn't mind/So beautiful, unmerciful/It took me down/Too little and too late/So now I know your kind/You fake it easy, just to please me/Don't you know.”)
The pre-chorus and chorus are sung again.
In the bridge, he knows what to do. Tomorrow, he will break up with her. (“I gotta let u go/It's you/There’s nothing I can do.”)
