DesktopX Public - does it have a timeout?

It's not available anymore for purchase or download at Stardock.com, but the public demo is still available on some sites,

for example here:

http://www.chip.de/downloads/DesktopX_13002289.html

And there are still al lot of themes relased for it, even paid ones. For example here:

http://www.ohmyicons.com/en/desktopx/70-scenario-carbon-desktopx-theme.html

Doesn't the public version has a limited functionality and a timeout?

The public demo is irrelevant to Stardock, that's host's choice making it available without notifying users it had been discontinued,so does the third party themes developer (ohmyicons.com).

Yes,the public version has a limited functionality and a timeout.

Your link is to a 30 day trial version of a product that dates back 6 years....;)

Alright, thanks. It's a shame that i can't purchase it as it works well on Windwos 8.1 so far.

Here on Wincustomize also still a lot of themes get released. I appears somehow weird.

They could sell an inexpensive "no support"-version or just make it free if it's irrelevant to them anyway.

As mentioned,it's skinner's choice to make/charge a DX "new" theme in WC,the staffs in here can only monitor the contents have no breach broken/involved. Maybe,it should has a policy/banner that informed people the DX has stop developed on its theme gallery, proceeding is your own risk. Yes,there are people clamoring for revival of DX both from the skinners/users. But,on market-wise,Stardock ceased the product anyway.

When "I" stated irrelevant,it meant it was beyond of Stardock's control/responsibility when the third parties (skinners, websites, hosts) still selling/hosting an outdated themes/software. It's quite naïve asking a company abdicate its hard-working property simply due to sale is low or "sell an inexpensive no support" when users always complain even being told before-handedly that it has no support then asking for refunds whatsoever which afflicted both individuals (buyer and developer)

It all depends on when the product was purchased.  I too have old products that still function...but they were purchased when they were new.

In this case you are talking about a site listing a product that WAS NEW 6 years ago.  Whether or not it is still available NOW is the issue.

It's an old, out-dated advertisement so yes, your question was answered....;)

I don't think this is naive at all. Right now their hard work is completely watsted. If they would make it open source, it would fulfill at least an ethical purpose. That's still more than no purpose. Better than it to be forgotten. Also an act like this will get them a positive reputation. I personally respect developers that make their non-profitable software open source.

A noble thought is not suitable for a commercial company I afraid, also DX has ceased developed, not abandoned,it may has other ways around in the future.

I'm betting that IF Stardock made DesktopX open source, or made it freely available, even stipulating a no support policy, people would still fill the forums complaining about glitches, and asking for support.

Maybe that plays into the decision to just shelve the product?
