Object Dock vs. Windows Taskbar

I admit: Object Dock looks cool. But coolness aside, I don't see the point of Object Dock when I have the Windows Taskbar. Why have both?

I can understand using Object Dock instead of the Taskbar. But if I hide the Taskbar, I lose the System Notification Area (the 'tray'.) So the Taskbar has to stay.

What then is the point of Object Dock? Is it mostly about the coolness factor?

I found OD very slow on Windows 7 so I have moved to Fences and Tiles.  Often OD would grab 25% of my total CPU, enough to trigger a Norton alert.

In your experience, is OD's version of the tray recognized by all applications? Does it respond to settings made in Control Panel (regarding which icons to display in the tray?)

If you look at screenshots in my gallery you will see docks on the left & right and the bottom....but you only see partly of what's in the bottom tabbed dock...I have tons of stuff in there I use and can access quickly....and the side docks as well give me access to things quickly.

I also use WindowBlinds and I hide my taskbar....but I don't lose any notifications....if I have updates my taskbar pops up and let's me know. The reason "I" use ObjectDock is for 2 reasons....a clean desktop and quick access to my programs and apps. I find it extremely useful and have been using it since 2003. And no I don't get paid to say this. ;)

Well, since this IS a support thread............be advised that not ALL systray notifications will work correctly, or at all with OD. Also, those little (Windows)64x64 sytray icons look like caa-caa when enlarged. Personally, when I used OD Plus, I favored Tabbed docks and NOT hiding my taskbar.

I find OD much more attractive than the taskbar. The variety is such you can match anything that you feel that day.    Love having the choice. <3

To summarize, it appears that OD is not a perfect replacement for the Taskbar. But it looks cool, except when icons don't scale.

In the final analysis, I'll just have to try it. Thanks for everyone's help.
