Crappy work laptop takes forver to load GC3 after beta update

Afternoon,

Never had issues running GC3 before, but with the new beta release, it take about it about 20 minutes to start up (from launch to main menu).  Granted I'm doing it on a mediocre work laptop, but it never took that long before.  Has anyone seen this before.  Runs fine on my main machine.  With travel coming up, it'd be nice to play when not at home.

Buy MOAR RAM online and have it shipped to you're home, then you can have fun again.

Don't ever modify a machine you don't personally own without the owner's consent.

DARCA, I know you like to be sarcastic sometimes but you should really be careful about statements like this. You could get someone into serious trouble this way.

I thought DARCA's advice was spot on. This is probably 1 of 2 ways to decrease the time it will take to load/play GC3, the next being to install it on a SSD. Since it's a laptop, your limited to the onboard graphics, so RAM and SSD are the way to go. Oh, also keep it plugged in so you're 1-Not running on battery and 2-Not running on some low-performance mode due to running on battery.

Any logistics due to it being a work laptop is up to the users discretion.  :cylon:

...

It was the advice I was given in a very similar senario. We don't know if he has a desktop and laptop or if he's borrowing it. My advice certainly wasn't assuming he was modifying someones property. Point being he's gota look online for himself and find more RAM or get a new machine... If its his.

DARCA. ;)

Everyone, re-read the original post and the title. I may be wrong, but "work laptop" can, and sometimes does, imply a company issued piece of equipment. My point is that you should modify only those machines which you directly own unless you have the owner's permission.

Another point is that he has not indicated any of the machine's properties. If he already has 8G or more of RAM, adding ram is not likely to do him any good.

Stewapet, my recommendation is to run DxDiag and post the first section ("system information") and the first 50 or so lines of the "Display Devices" section here so we can do some realistic evaluation.

Here is another question for you Stewapet: How does it run after you have a game started. You mentioned poor performance during launch, but gave no mention of after the main map comes up. The game will not use as much memory during the initial launch as it does for one of the larger map sizes.

i dunno Lucky Jack even reading DARCA's original post i would assume that if it is a work laptop the OP would go and ask his IT dept for more ram ;)

I mean if someone needs to be advised about common sense there is a problem then :)

everything he has said he can ask his IT dept and they will help him. his best options are more ram and SSD. the rest is up to OP to determine however he can. to the OP though dont say its for a game as the IT dept wont upgrade your machine for games :P

:| Stewapet: "Excuse me, Mr. IT Man... I need some more ram and a new solid state drive for my work laptop..."

8C Mr. IT Man: "What on earth for?"

:\ Stewapet: "Um... Well... It's actually so I can play a game..."

o_O  Mr. IT Man: "A GAME?!?!"

:D Stewapet: "Yeah a game... It's a really good game though!"

For mine I went into options/interface checked "Hide Grid Outside Influence and Skp Intro.

Checked Quick Move in Gameplay.

Since doing these things I have not crashed once.
