Hotkey to toggle the "show dock when mouse touches edge" function

Hello,

generally i want the dock to appear when the mouse touches the edge of the screen. I use it all the time. But in some programs the work area is near the edge, so the dock comes to foreground all the time while working. Therefore it would be great to have a hotkey to quickly disable/enable this feature.

Greetings, Toni

You should try out the settings first. You can set the dock to another edge of the screen or even another monitor if you use more than one like me. You even could set it freely anywhere as "floating" (found under "Position"). If that isn't to your taste, you can change the behaviour for bringing it to the front (found under "Accessibility"). For example set different hotspots or set them to a delay ("Configure hotspots") so the dock won't react immediately. Also you can change the way the dock reacts to the mouse cursor with a delay or not at all.

My general tip however is to use more than one dock at the same time. For example, i use all my docks on my second screen. I then set one main dock middle bottom (and the Windows taskbar to disabled), one as a taskbar replacement middle top with just running apps on it and a third as a tray replacement bottom right an vertical (a very tiny one).

I suffer from the same problem, and the tips don't solve it. I use my computer mainly for working, so I put the dock where I can most easily access it. That is the bottom of the main screen. But as it would be covering parts of the desktop or the office software I use, I set the dock to "Autohide". I tried setting up the dock in several other ways, but this is the method that best reflects my workflow.

Problem is, in my spare time, I also play video games. And in some videogames, the mouse cursor is used to reposition the camera of the game. If the mouse cursor touches the edge of the screen, the dock comes up in front of the game, which is really annoying and can be game breaking. For instance, in order to play Dota2 smoothly, I have to shut down Object Dock.

So I would also prefer a hotkey or a means to configure Object Dock (e.g. "don't pop up dock while in DirectX mode").

I agree with the above. It's very annoying when menus pop out when you get CLOSE to the edge of the screen. If would be much better if you could set it so they don't appear unless you actually TOUCH the edge.

Please add this feature, it's driving me nuts.

End of tonikeys's quote

How close do you need?  Mine looks like 2 pixels from the edge [maybe 1] before there is a response [popup].  By definition, as a desktop 'feature' it needs to be 'on' the desktop responding to a mouse/cursor location on whatever resolution you run...so if it were 1024x768 it would likely NEED to be responding/activating somewhere around 766-767 [if on the bottom]...;)

Hmmm, for me I have to actually touch the bottom screen edge for the dock to appear.  Could it be the curosr you are using?

Ok, problem solved. Strangely, the option for autohide" was not enabled. (rightclick on pop-out menu, settings - view - autohide)

Strangely though, without this options enabled, the menu DOES autohide, but re-appears just by getting close.

Anyways, I'm happy now :)

I hope this helps the OP too :)

"You even could set it freely anywhere as "floating" (found under "Position")."

Only for tabbed docks Tim which I have wondered why this option is not available for quick-launch docs.

Hi,

Still no objectdock hotkey? I am very surprised this was not implemented from the very beginning. It's not about figuring out which already implemented functions works for you, its about implementing functions that work for everyone. Implementing a hotkey should not be heard to implement is it? Correct me if I am wrong.

The objectdock hide/appear hotkey is seriously needed, as it lets you make it disappear anytime you needed quickly.

I would also like this feature. I have several games that I play only in the middle monitor of my three screen setup. Since these are not "fullscreen" games, objectdock continues to pop up when I get to the edges (which in an rts happens every couple seconds). This means everytime I launch these games, I have to open the objectdock settings and disable the docks on my central monitor.

Suggestion... There's already a shortcut in the advanced settings (windows+d) to prevent the hiding of docks... Why not make this cycle between "always displayed" -> "always hidden" -> "default behavior"?
