What IS the number of allowed activations?

I was recently evaluating the possibility of switching to another product, and I uninstalled/re-installed Start8 multiple times. I didn't encounter the dreaded "Maximum Number of Activations" error, but it got me to wondering what exactly the number of allowed activations is?

It really just depends on how many times you activate within a short period of time. Most people never encounter the limit.
