Going to give this game a chance

Hello everybody, I am a gamer who has burned so many times by the likes of EA Games (Command & Conquer 4, Battlefield 4, etc), and Activision (Every Call of Duty after Modern Warfare 2) and much more. I remember a time when game developers used to strive for excellence over massive profit, and this morning after playing a round of BF4 where the servers crashed (again) like a bag of motivated evil bricks (DICE really screwed the game up even more last patch  >:( ). While cursing the gaming gods for tricking me out of my money, I remembered a game from a long time ago, Galciv2. That it had depth and complexity, sure it wasn't the prettiest thing out there, but was fun, despite how TERRIBLE I was at it. I was like a baby sea otter surrounded by polar bears armed with missile launchers sort of terrible. But even in defeat it was a good time.

So I decided to give a bit of a leap of faith in Stardock, and pre-order the game with the Founder Edition (Instead of buying Titanfall), and see whether spending my hard earned money on somewhat indie developer is the right thing to do. I'm a big fan of space games, and have grown tired of the same, shoot the guy with the red dot over his head game-play haunting the whole industry atm. I'm posting these words not out of wanting to be heard, but to remember if I'm right to support games like this, or to eat my own words if I'm wrong (probably gonna BBQ my computer screen with hot sauce with a side side salad if that happens). Really hope I'm right.

Congrats on your decision to support Stardock and GalCiv 3! Nowadays I tend to put my money where my heart is and Pre-orders games I have faith in and support projects I Like on kickstarter instead of throwing my money at the big devs who only seem to be interested in making what will sell the most.

Please understand that Stardock will need time to polish the game to a point where it compares to GalCiv2, just don't expect the Beta to feel like a finalized game immediately.  There is likely a year of more of work to be done before the game is ready for public release.

You fool. Galciv III will be just like Galciv II, only better and different.

Not really that great leap of faith mate. Stardock tends to be reliable in it's products.

Let's compare my experiences with two preorders from two different publishers.

First we have Stardock and often lamented Elemental.

Regardless of what someone might think of the game, it works and is perfectly playable. But SD decided it was not good enough so I got all kinds of stuff as compensation.  ^_^

Then there is this AAA-grade game, Assassin's Creed 4. Preorder, played happily for a month or so. This year decided to play more in January.

Savegame not working. Little look into forums and savegames for that game are constantly failing for lots of people. I hope we all agree that savegame working and not losing progress is pretty essential for a game? After couple months of constant hand wrestling I finally got them to refund the game! Savegames are still shot to hell by the way, apparently they just do not give a crap.

So, based on this experience... I really can't see SD as risky investment. And certain other company is going to have to come up with something insanely good for me to give them any of my money.
