NVIDIA Surround and Start8 Issue

I use a 3 monitors setup with NVIDIA Surround. 3 monitors work as one big display 5760x1080. While I'm working (not playing games i mean ;) ) NVIDIA drivers let me maximize all windows on one monitor only and taskbar is on center monitor only. When I install Start8 some strange glitches appear:

1. All windows start to maximize through all three monitors. I can't maximize it on one monitor anymore.
2. When window is maximized, on left and right monitor it starts to resize permanently if there is a taskbar and then no taskbar and so on.

I had to uninstall Start8 and was very sad. I hope you will fix it soon.

Some info:

  • Win 8.1
  • GeForce Driver  332.21

Btw, sorry for my english. I tried my best. :)

It sounds like the NVidia surround feature may be buggy.  Start8 should have no impact on maximizing windows.  Are you sure you didn't install some other software at the same time?

I did a simple tests:

Test #1.

1. Uninstall Start8 only.

2. Turn on Surround feature and configure it.

Result: Maximizing works ok.

Test #2 (continue of test #1).

1. Turn off Surround.

2. Install Start 8.

3. Turn on Surround feature and configure it.

Result: Glitches appear (both).

But... To be honest, yeah, Surround feature is still buggy. In example (without start8 installed) after reboot all windows start to maximize through 3 monitors again but without this permanent resizing bug. Аfter reconfigure surround it becomes ok.

Same here, I made a Video. Nvidia Surround works quite well here, but in combination with start 8 it's quite annoying.

I made a Video to show everybody, what I mean.

"After switching from triple monitor resolution(5760x1200) to single monitor(1920x1200) and back I get problems, when maximizing single windows, e.g firefox, chrome,..
Deinstalling Start8 and using other windows8 button software cures the problem(or not switching from 3xtft to 1xtft and back)..."

It was also funny, that after starting "camstudio" the glitches ended. But that's the only software, I know.

I think it has something to do that the software disables the resizing of different windows.

The problem also disappears, when I use the taskbar over the whole lengh of the 3 monitors. Nvidia luckily presents an option, that only shows the bar on the middle screen. Something, that Start8 can't really handle so far.

I am using Windows 8.1 and 337.50 driver. The Nvidia Control Panel doesn't have any problems with that when maximized, but any other windows, especially google chrome, start to shake, like it is trying to stay maximized but something pushes back to not maximized. Maybe it has something with Directx or OpenGL.

Another thing. Im watching a video on Media Player Classic. The window maximized on one or three monitors doesn't appear to have any problems at all.

Sometimes my taskbar goes nuts and change itself from across the three monitors and i have to put it back on the center screen again. Even without start8 on windows 7.

So... my guess is that this problem have nothing to do with start8, its just the buggy nvidia surround that gets crazy when start8 is installed.

I only can tell you, that with "Camstudio" in background, Start8 and NV Surround work, as they should.

Only the shortcuts to toggle to single screen don`t work because of any reason.

If you contact support they may be able to send you an interim build which might help that based on a guess on what is happening.

However we believe the root issue is on the NVidia side so it may not help.

Hello,

Changes have been made in Start8 for its next release (probably out in the next couple of weeks) regarding this issue.

Haven't been able to fix the issue, anybody got any luck? This issue its the only one preventing me from enjoying windows 8, I'm seriously considering ditching windows 8 and start 8 and going back to Windows 7

hopefully you will get this solved, it's been taking a while though I was told back in may you guys were working on it..... please consider this bug is a deal breaker for all of us using nvidia surround........

Do you have a test build available for testing, I'd be happy to help you guys test the issue....

this bug it's so anoying I want to go back to windows 7, i haven't done so yet cause I don't have time at the moment to re install Windows 7 Yet.

I'd advise Nvidia surround users to stay away from Windows 8 and Startx untill this issue is fixed
