Start8 Start menu search is missing some programs

I really like Start8, but I'm missing a bunch of Start menu items in Start search.

The following folder and its subfolders do not show up in Start search: c:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

For example, the Internet Explorer shortcut is in that folder, so when I search the Start menu for it, it doesn't show up.  If I add that shortcut to my desktop (c:\Users\user\desktop) it shows up under files and folders, but not Programs.  Same issue if I pin it to my Start8 menu.  It shows up under files and folders, but not programs.

That's this directory:

C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\StartMenu

If I add the shortcut to the global Start menu directory, it shows up under Programs as expected.  That's this one:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

My workaround for now is to add anything I want to show up to the above directory.

I have confirmed that the AppData directory is being indexed.  The items in the first directory I mentioned are indexed and show up in the Metro search interface.  I have rebuilt the search index using the Rebuild button and also completely deleted the index file and let it rebuild from scratch.  I confirmed that .LNK files are being indexed.

This is Windows 8.1 Pro x64, clean install with Start8 1.3.1.  No other versions of Start8 have been installed.  No Start8 tweaking utilities have been used.  Is this a bug or is it just me?  Thanks for any assistance.

I'm not sure if this forum is monitored, but I'll report another bug with Start8 start menu search.  When you search the title of at least some Start menu entries, it only searches from the beginning.  For example, when I search for "The New York Times" metro app from Start8, if I don't don't start the search with "The" it doesn't find anything.

Would be really nice to have these issues acknowledged and/or added to a bug list.

Metro apps are not included in the OS indexer, so searches on them are less advanced.

Regarding the other issue, Searching for applications will search the standard start menu entries.  I will have to check if the app roaming copy is being included or not, but I would imagine it would be.

Neil,

Thanks for the reply.  I would really appreciate checking on the app roaming copy and letting us know if it doesn't work, whether it can be potentially be added to a fix list.

Thanks again.
