Transparent Background

Modern Start Menu Blurs Background

Hello, Stardock.

Have your programmers or any other users suggested or explored that the Modern/Metro Start Menu just become a transparent but blurred overlay. In other words, have a Decor8 or Start8 setting to show the windows and active content in the background, but blurred like the Aero effect from Windows Vista. Just have the Start tiles on top.

Would this be feasible?

I did awhile back for Start8, before Decor8 was released. So, this is where my request, the same as yours, would have landed if asked today.

I never saw anything develop from my request, fyi...

I'm torn,

Microsoft in 8.1 has allowed has me to see my animated background from Deskscapes 8, but not the active windows on that desktop, nor any blurr.

(right click task bar > properties > navigation > show my desktop background on start)

Decor8 allows me to have my background blurred, but not the active windows on that desktop, nor any animations from Deskscapes 8 ( <-this really puzzles me !).

Neil, you make my favorite Deskscapes background, Winter Snow. I have run that since day 1. I'm guessing its just difficult to mod Decor8 to allow us to see the animations from Deskscapes 8, and the live desktop in the background hazened by the blurr from Decor8?

Unfortunately Windows 8.1 removed the option for OS blur and the start menu is very restricted in what is allowed in the background.  Decor8 can blur its own images as it is in control of them, but the desktop itself is not possible.  Deskscapes actually had an update to make that work in the start menu background on 8.1 as it would show a static copy normally.

Likewise the start menu cannot be made transparent other than making the entire thing transparent by a constant amount which would look terrible.

Worth a shot at asking. Thanks for the reply.
