Windows 7 and Windows Updates

Windows 7 and Windows Updates

So I have noticed that this computer I am fixing for a friend works better if I don't install any updates. So my question is do I really need to update the machine? As long as I use a good anti virus solution shouldn't I be OK?

So I can install Vista, run this program you speak of and it will tell me what serial goes to the install CD? Assuming I can find a copy of Vista? Or if my friend wants to go back to Vista? I would think on this hardware Vista would be slower than 7.

LOL...No Kona. It's too late now. You would have to have done it before installing Win7. If you used it now, it would only show you the key you used when you installed Windows 7.

For the record. A key does not belong to the install disc.

Example, I own a Windows 8 Pro key. The key is what I paid for. I can use that key with any Windows 8 Pro disc, ISO, or download.

Say I lose my disc and need to reinstall. I can borrow a Win8 Pro disc from a friend, and use my paid for key with his disc, and be legit.

I have Belarc Advisor on my rig. I didn't know it could search a Windows DVD for the serial key. Interesting.

No.  The method is....you have an existing OS installed on the computer ....you run Belarc ...it tells you the key...you write it down....you format and install again from any dvd and type in the key you wrote down when prompted.

Rocket surgery...;)

No. If you have a valid (like factory install) installed OS and have lost your PID, you can run it and it will tell you what key was used/activated.

Uvah -

I must confess, that eMachines rig I had came with WindowsME.  I'm quite certain it cost me a couple hundred thousand brain cells.  Ones that I could sure use about now.
