WindowBlinds 7/8 and SkinStudio 7/8

more frustrating problems

I downloaded Windowblinds 8 and SkinStudio 8 because of the "win7 compatibility", worked fine until I started skinning and I soon figured out that little things like the white borders around tool menus and the favorites menu don't work in the same way they have in the past. First time you open one of these menus it work, and every other time after that it doesn't, you're stuck with the white border.

talking with someone at wincustomise helped me firgure this out, there's a workaround to this problem, trying what he said I saw that the 'Extra Settings' for SkinStudio in the favorites menu is no longer there, so no way to turn off the transparency.

so I went back to WindowBlinds7.  is a good thing I backed up my public documents because uninstalling WindowBlinds8 also deletes all of my skins without asking.

back in WindowBlinds 7 I see that SkinStudio 8 no longer loads.  uninstall and reinstall - nothing.

then I find that SkindStudio 7 is no longer in my downloads x_x   so now I'm stuck asking for help here on where to download it.

You will have to use Windowblinds 8 an SkinStudio 8 together, you cannot use Windowblinds 7 with SkinStudio 8 and vice-versa.  If you want SkinStudio 7 send me a PM with your email address and I can send it to you though. But you will need to uninstall SkinStudio 8 and run a good registry cleaner first, then reboot before installing SkinStudio 7.  Personally I use Windowsblinds 8 and SkinStudio 8 on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 though.

If this is true & Michelle911 didn't just miss it, this has been an annoyance mentioned in forum posts many, many times in the past.  If true, I can't believe SD is still just assuming people will simply be wise enough to backup their skins.  I haven't uninstalled WB in forever and a day so can't say one way or the other that a warning doesn't appear at some point during the uninstall routine, but it would be a piece of cake to implement if it doesn't.  It would be wrong to not warn people at launch what the uninstaller will do, even if it's mentioned in other documentation somewhere.

If indeed Michelle911 did just miss it, I withdraw my rant, yield my soapbox and you may return to your regularly scheduled programming, with apologies to SD.

The same happened with me when installing WB8, It removed all my skins without warning but I was fortunate enough to have backed them up prior to installation

I totally agree Daiwa... I can't be positive I didn't miss it... but I did back them up before uninstalling so yeah, it was on my mind and I was looking out for it, or some option to keep user files or, something.

So they get us coming and going.  This is wrong.  And unnecessary.  And easily remedied.
