Tarth Question

I'm having a hard time utilizing The Tarth's ability which grants +3 attack and +3 initiative when in armies of three or less. I'm usually trying to field the largest size armies that I can in order to win fights efficiently, with minimal loss. How do you best make use of this ability? Thanks in advance

This ability makes it so Tarth can expand quickly in the early game. You can make small stacks of units effective and out settle and expand some of the other civs (except Magnar).  But in a fight you can take out most of the baddies around your area and build a few cities. Once you reach that point there is no point in trying to get that skill working to greatest advantage.

I generally use it middle game. It is also a great boon, when you make a bad attack decision (or something attacks you unexpectedly) and you start to lose troops. During battle, when you drop below the indicated amount you will get that bonus again. A sweet fight to the death bonus. If you want to get this bonus when fielding large units take a look at Umber.

Thanks for your response. Why did you say, "except Magnar?" What makes them able to out settle The Tarth? Thanks again

End of quote

Use an army of three heroes. Choose all warriors with magic knowledge. Equip them with best equipment and tears of cindrym (which give +3 heal for each kill). Let them learn abilities which restore health in battle. And that's all army do you need to explore the land.

Magnar creates fodder units (slaves) the slaves require no upkeep and can be used to explore and clear areas. While Tarth is limited on resources for troops Magnar can field 3-4 armies of slaves and protect frontier cities a little better. When one plays Magnar, one plays to expand quickly using cheap units that you really shouldn't care if they die in battle as they are cheap.

Hmm I love slaves...

I'll have to give them a go.
