Achievements bug or I am doing something wrong?

Research Achievements

Decided to complete the achievements, which I have previously done for the vanilla and Diplomacy versions

Having searched the forums I see there has been some bugs for some of the achievements. Is this still the case for some of the research achievements?

Playing Advent, I completed the hostility research only achievement, but in my next game the harmony achievement did not trigger when I completed the research tree. Whilst doing the harmony research, I also did the Capital ship only achievement and got that achievement no problem.

Was wondering if it was because I upgraded fleet/capital slots or even used tactical slots to defend my outer planets?

Also checked the stats on Steam and all the research achievements are under 1% achieved, which does not look right.

Will not try again until I know for sure it is a bug or I am doing something wrong.

Any thoughts or insight will be very much appreciated.

Best advice is: NEVER research anything else than than harmony related research, not even diplomatic stuff. Only the fleet size increase and more capital ships. The research achievement is bugged I think and it does niot give the achievement if you research diplomatic stuff. Though I may be wrong, cause I earned that achievement long ago.

I was going to try that achievement soon myself. Will post up if I get it to work or not.

Didn't touch diplomacy, only researched harmony. When the last one was researched I double and triple checked all had been researched.

I believe you're allowed fleet research but nothing else. Can't recall how it worked when I did it but I doubt I'd survive without more than 100 fleet.

Did you play the game online (through Steam) or offline?

When I played offline and completed the "Achievement" - It was not recorded.

It could be that Steam requires you to play online to 'achieve' == Bug in Steam??

Well I got the Vasari one to work. Will try Advent soon.

I believe you need to be online in Steam for it to record the achievements.

No you do not have to be online for Rebellion to unlock steam achievements. I've gotten achievements in Rebellion offline. It reports the achievement unlocked just the same and then the next time you go online it'll update your steam account with the unlocked achievement.

It could be the case that you just missed one tier of a single research on accident. It is difficult to tell at a glance sometimes if you missed a tier on a particular research when all the research around it is fully upgraded. Make sure each and every research has that grey 'complete' border.

I will say Rebellion might be touchy about achievements for some reason. I had to start a new game to unlock Pirate Exterminator despite the fact that the game reported I'd killed more than 2,000 pirates during a game. Same thing happened on Intrepid Explorer when I was getting the new Forbidden Planet DLC achievements. The second time I did each of them, they both worked fine. So maybe just try to do the achievement again?

To answer some of the question in my failed attempt at getting the harmony only achievement:

I was logged into Steam, as other achievements were registering as and when I got them in the same game

When I researched the last part I then paused the game and went through each research to make sure I had not missed any part. Each research showed the grey tab in the bottom right and I also went into each to check I had not missed one part of say 3 stages. They were all completed.

Is it because I did Capital improvements? I was doing and got the Capitals only achievement.

I cannot remember but maybe if I clicked on the other research trees, but did not do any research, that would invalidate the achievement?

I am going to have another go this weekend and will let you know if it works or not.

All the best

Baron

Hi!

The problem with achievements not being recorded by the game or Steam still persists - please check out this thread from the SoSE community at Steam:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2765279

I've purposefully tried to get the TEC Civilian Research achievement four times during the last few days, but without success. Curiously though, the game and Steam have recorded successfully most of the other achievements people have had trouble with. Here's hoping these last remaining bugs will be ironed out in the near future - SoSE Rebellion is something I enjoy greatly, and I'd love to see it reach absolutely bug-free state :)

Those of us that have had no trouble in getting this have found that we are all doing the Science Victory option. Seems how that is found in the Civilian Research area that may be why those that aren't doing that option don't seem to be getting that achievement. Try doing it that way and see if you get it.

I've gotten mine doing Capital Victory and just researching like crazy. Luckily I never had any problems.

Update:

I managed to get the TEC Civilian Research achievement on my fifth try by not researching anything at all outside the Civilian tech tree, not even Fleet Logistics.

The point about different Victory options may be true. I haven't tested them - but the main problem still is, of course, that all achievements should work properly in a "regular" (i.e. all Victory options off) game too. My gut feeling is that the problem is somehow connected to the introduction of Steam. This is because I bought all the pre-Rebellion stuff when they came out and played all iterations of the game for endless hours, getting all achievements without a single "unregistered achievement" event.

I realised I never responded to my August post to say if I ever go any of the civilian achievements, so thanks for resurrecting this post.

I tried once more, again trying to obtain the Advent civilian research. Once again, it did not work, despite only doing the civilian research, without touching the military and diplomacy research trees.

Some interesting points about why the achievements may not work all the time, so will have another go turning Capital victory on in one attempt & to not research logistics in another go.
