Knights of Asok

Need Some Love

So after finally getting to Alliances (which are pretty far down the tree) I finally got some Knights of Asok, not only are they disappointing for how long it takes to get to them, but their wages are 4.6 per turn.  My top level troops (Paladins) are an order magnitude better in every way, and their wages are a fourth.

The Knights of Asok should be something special.  A special weapon that's unique to them.  Unique armor, a unique attack.  Their wages are too high as well.

If you consider that I don't consider them worth having around (a money sink), there's not much reason for me to actually want their camp (which will cost 9.2 gold per turn).  I can get 4 groups of Paladins for the same cost per turn...

Paladins (24 Crystal, 20 Metal, 1 Horse, 211 Production)

  • Traits:  Amarian Blood, Charge, Chain Mail Proficiency, Accuracy
  • Armor:  Chain Coif, Aegis Robe, Chain Greaves, Soldier's Boots, Soldier's Gloves,
  • Weapon:  Longsword
  • Accessories:  Braided Belt, Cloak of Shadows, Amulet of Haste, Amulet of Flames

Excellent points. Makes me feel better about routinely razing any Asok camp that falls under my zone of control.

I usually just ignore them.  Considering the amount of effort it takes to get Alliances, it's not a very good deal.  Pretty meh.  Without anything to make them special, there's no point in spending the money.

Well they were changing it so they should have no wages. Problem is they used a tag that is not working as intended. They have

<WageOverride>0</WageOverride>

That is not working, and so instead it should be changed to

<HasWages>0</HasWages>

This will give them no wages as you can see and test with the following file. (I did this for mercenaries as well)

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/75549875/Fallen%20Enchantress/Abilities/MercKnightsFix.zip

This will give the knights and the mercenaries 0 wages as intended.

On a fine tune note the construction of the Asok castle is a 2x2 tile, although it uses a 1x1 construction tile. I would recommend changing it to a 2x2 construction tile.

The wage override (if not 0) will descrease the wages of the knights, I think that tag only works for positive numbers (I could be wrong), but I have changed it to 1 and got knights costing 3.5 gildar per season instead of the 9.2 I was seeing before. I'm sure other values will change that cost to a more reasonable wage for all, unless the real intent is to not have wages at all (then the above is the fix for that particular problem).

They're ok if you're short of mounted troops. Hopefully the wages will be sorted out so they're not so expensive.

My point is that I should not be able to easily construct identical units.  There isn't anything about them that makes them really special except having Endurance II.  I think they should have special armor and a unique weapon (perhaps a lance, which can be used with a shield)

How does one apply this fix to the game?

Download the file, place it in the mods folder in the My Documents/My Games/Legendary Heroes directory, start Legendary Heroes and enable mods in the options tab, restart the program, and start a new game.

Unless I'm mistaken, Knights of Asok are mounted on Warhorses, so you're not able to construct identical units unless you're playing a faction with the Legacy of Serrane trait, just units which are so close to identical that it makes no difference.

That would be nice, particularly if combined with an ability which granted additional attack per tile moved to simulate the benefits of a cavalry charge.

I have modded them, they are  truly a horde of Demons now }:) .. well worh the money .

If your not really a modder.. just give them a HP boost or decrease their building cost ..

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elemental Fallen Enchantress\data\English\CoreMonsterUnitTypes.xml

<ProductionRequirement>             <Type>Resource</Type>             <Attribute>Gold</Attribute>

<Value>90</Value>      TO --->>    <Value>1</Value>     OR      INCREASE HEALTH       <UnitStat_HitPoints>33</UnitStat_HitPoints> (lvl 1 to 20).

Maybe a more powerful Knights of Asok befitting the later game Alliances tech could be included in the next version of LH?

My point wasn't that they could be modded to be better, that can certainly happen easily.  My point was that they are weaker than they should be considering the effort it takes to get them.  And they don't really have much that makes them special.
