Scaling

Hello community. I'm sure this question has been answered before, and if it has, could you please point me at it? If not, I need a bit of help.
I want to scale my ships and structures down to look a little more realistic in relation to the planets and suns, but I have no idea how to go about that. Could someone walk me through it step-by-step? Thanks much in advance.

Your ships as in:

  • Ships you've modeled yourself. This is easy to do, simply scale down your model, or
  • Default Sins of a Solar Empire ships. This is more of a pain that involves extracting the meshes into a 3d modelling program and then scaling them down before putting them back in game, unless there is a faster way a smart person (ie someone who's not me) knows of

I feel like your intended question is the latter in which case I hope someone can help you out.

Yes, it's the default ships and structures. I was hoping it would be easier, but it's still a skill worth learning. It'd be something to keep me busy, anyway.

Just remembered there was a mesh resize tool for Sins (Trinity version I believe), not sure if there is such a tool for Rebellion or not but certainly worth looking for as it would likely speed up what you're doing immensely.

I'd love to (in fact, that's what got me wanting to do it), but it's not compatible with 1.5, or with Forbidden Planets (as far as I know). It's a minidump every time I try to activate it.

It would be far less work to make that mod 1.51 DLC compatible than go through the effort of resizing everything though.

Edit - I'm going to download it and see what files he's modded that might cause conflicts

I never used so you're on you're own.

If it doesn't do Rebellion, get the reference files and remove the 3rd line in the .mesh

maxDiffuseMipLevel 0

resize and add the line back.

To convert the meshes from BIN to TXT to BIN, I keep this !ConvertMesh folder in all my mods Mesh folder. Move the mesh into the folder and click the .bat you want, it will do multiple files.

Zom, if you can get it working (Or tell me how, I wouldn't mind learning), I'd really appreciate it.

-Edit: Fist, I'll give that a try if I have to do it from scratch. But what does that maxdiffusemiplevel line do? It'll be much easier for me to change it if I know what it does (peace of mind, and such.)

maxDiffuseMipLevel 0

It's for the Rebellion's shadow system. It is the only difference between Trinity and Rebellion meshes.
