[AI Exploit][LE][LH] Capturing a final city and forcing a Sovereign to surrender

I've been able to do this forever and only just occurred to me that it probably should be reported and looked at.

When I've burned down an Enemy Sovereign to it's last city, I'm greedy so always want to capture the AI city as well as the opposing Sovereign.
This works every..single..time..

Build a Pioneer and park it 3 moves out from the city.  Often, just the Sovereign (usually alone) will come out to kill the Pioneer leaving the city wide open for conquering leaving the Sovereign alive outside in the field.  After the city is taken, "talk" to the Sovereign and force him to Surrender.

Of course, having to exploit wouldn't be necessary if the opposing sovereign's cities wouldn't auto-raze when it surrenders (the auto-raze is really stupid btw).  Those former cities should just become Independent rather than be razed.  Different topic for a different thread though..

I reduced Yithril to 1 city which had 0 population.  i think the city was then destroyed by a monster.  But even then i could not get him to surrender.

In my first game (of FE), all Sovs surrendered at some point. After that, nobody has surrendered to me ever again, even though I have beat the game many times.

The 'AI surrender threshold' in the options screen does not seem to have any influence. It's probably some hidden mechanic I (and Fuzzy) always -or never- seem to trigger.

I have been able to get AIs to surrender, but I always have the surrender threshold on "Often".  You need over 3 times their faction power, usually, depending on how stubborn they are.

I think you also have to be at war with an AI faction to get it to surrender.

End of bigduncm24's quote

Ok, I thought it was obvious from the context, but let me be clear: even after I conquered almost all of their cities, razed their buildings, slaughtered their livestock AND stole their candy, the AI would still refuse to surrender.

As I usually play on 'ridiculous' it is virtually impossible to triple their faction power. That could be the cause.

It takes awhile, but it usually happens.   I take the last city and just park next to his pitiful stack.

He won't talk to you for awhile if he's the only other faction you have met

If you have another faction met, he won't talk to you if you click him but if you talk to another faction and use the scroll arrows you can talk to him.

If you keep pestering him for 1-X turns, he'll eventually surrender.

Might be an exploit... but how should it work otherwise (except for the stupid autoraze on surrender).

That is the other issue, they never beg for peace and offer you tribute.  Offer me loot, a vassal (hero), or territory to appease my wrath.
