Get rid of the tray on which docklets sit

This has probably been answered but I'm not sure I was doing the right search.  Is there a way to get rid of the tray where the docklets sit.  I am specifically talking about the gray rectangle.  I just want the icons to float in space.  Is that possible?

I don't use ObjectDock any more but can't you set the background to be 100% transparent while leaving the icons fully opaque?

NeXus lets you do this but I'm not sure about OD.

all you have to do is take any dock folder and delete the images out of the folder so when you load the dock it will be invisible as theres no images to load..

Transparency did the trick (and I'm sure the other answers would have worked too).

or if you don't want to delete the images just rename them something else ..that way the dock does not recognize the images so loads with no dock just your icons
