ModernMix v1.05 Beta - Closing A Modern App Causes The Windows 8 Start Button To Show When Hovering Over Bottom Left Corner

ModernMix v1.05 Beta

Since installing ModernMix v1.05 Beta, when I close a Modern App, then hover in the bottom left corner, the Windows 8 Start Button shows.

I've had this problem all along.  I use Classic Start Menu and have the W8 Start mini screen disabled but it starting showing up after I first installed MM albeit it took a little effort to make it appear.  Bringing it up is a lot easier with 1.05.  Also, I do not have to start and close a Modern app to get it.

This sounds like it may be a problem with classic start menu itself.  It probably unhides that when a modern app is running and it has no idea that a modern app is windowed and thus on the desktop.

It shouldn't be an issue with Start8 which is fully aware of ModernMix.

Where is your taskbar positioned and are you using Start8?  If so do you have the settings set to hide the bottom left hand corner hotspot when the taskbar overlaps it enabled?

A quick test here is not showing this issue.

I don't have to run a Modern app to see this behavior.  Also, if memory serves me correct, I was always able to see the W8 mini Start window even before I installed MM.  It took some work positioning the pointer just right on the lower left of my screen.  After 1.05 it is now very easy to bring up the window.

To be honest CSM has so many more options than Start8 however I'll give Start8 another try now.

ModernMix does not contain any code to alter how or when the bottom left hand corner popup works so installing a newer version of ModernMix shouldn't have made any difference at all.

I just installed Start8 and decided to buy it.  One thing I noticed is that when I run a Modern app in windowed mode the charms bar is active again as well as the W8 mini start window on the bottom left. I disabled the Charms Bar in Start8.  Should this be happening?

I previously reported this issue on this forum and to the Stardock help desk.  Here's what I reported:

Using Start8 I have the Windows 8 charms bar and hot corners disabled.  After closing a modern app from the desktop by clicking the 'X' in the upper right top border corner the charms bar and hot corners become enabled even though I have them disabled from Start8 – If I move my cursor to the corners the charms bar or hot corners display.  If I mouse click on the desktop after closing the modern app (clicking the 'X') the charms bar and hot corners are correctly disabled and do not display, so for some reason ModernMix needs the cursor to click to desktop to keep the charms bar and hot corners from becoming enabled after closing a modern app via the ‘X’.  This problem only occurs when closing a modern app from the 'X' on the top border - when closing an app via right clicking on the apps taskbar icon the charms bar and hot corners are not enabled.

Additional Info:

This issue only occurs when an application is open on my desktop taskbar.  For some reason an open desktop application causes the hot corners and charms bar to become enabled if the cursor is moved to the corners.  If no desktop applications are open this problem doesn’t occur.

I have seen this issue starting with MM release 1.0a and now in the 1.05 beta.  I'm not sure if it existed in releases prior to 1.0a.

I have not yet received any confirmation from Stardock acknowledging this issue.  I'm hoping they fix it soon as it can be somewhat annoying.

Yes, this seems to happen for me with Start8 as well.

The menu button only appears when a modern app such as Netflix is running.

I think it might be related to dual monitors. If the modern app is started on the second monitor, the Start screen menu corner thing will appear when you hover over the start button on the first monitor.

If the modern app is started on the first monitor, this doesn't happen. It seems to only happen for me if an app opens on the second monitor.

This is using Start8 1.12 and ModernMix 1.05 beta.

You are absolutely correct PauLFC.  I have dual monitors and it works just as you described it.  Obviously better multi-monitor support is needed.

The taskbar is at the bottom. Yes, I am using Start8, and yes I have that setting enabled.
