Issues & Feature requests for win 8 style menu

I've been trying out Start8 for several days now - it's nice but I'm using the windows 8 style menu and it feels a bit like an afterthought compared to the windows 7 style.

The two things that bother me the most are Escape key (in some cases I have to hit Esc as much as 3 times to close the menu) and the lack of the win 7 style controls (sleep/shutdown, run, separate shortcuts to control panel/documents/etc.)

If the escape will behave as expected and if I could have the right-side of windows 7 style menu integrated somewhere into the windows 8 style menu - I believe it'll be a great combination!

Try tapping the Win key instead.

The shutdown options available are a function of Windows, Check your power options.

The shortcuts can be added from the Configure tab of Start8

1. Escape key

Yes, I can use the Win key, but the whole point of Start8 (at least for me) is to provide a familiar environment that conforms to the way I'm used to work in Win 7. If I have to retrain my muscle memory and change my flows - what's the point in using Start8 then - I might as well get used to the default Win 8 start screen.

2. Win 7 controls

I don't need shutdown specifically, I need Sleep. And I cannot easily create shortcut to Sleep because I have hibernation enabled. I can, of course, go to charms bar/setting/power/sleep - but then again - what's the point in having Start8 if I have to do that.

As for shortcuts - they are only available in Win 7 style menu - as I've mentioned I'm using Win 8 style.

So you're looking to return to a "familiar" interface, but didn't choose the Windows 7-style menu? Not sure what you're complaining about. If you want Windows 7-style controls, use the Windows 7-style menu. Windows 8-style implies that you'll be using the new Windows 8 methods to accomplish tasks.

Ah, that I would do, except I rely heavily on start menu search (i.e. - If I want to open Notepad I hit WinKey and type "no" and press enter) - that's the way it worked on Win7, that's the way it works in Win8 start menu. In Start8 Win7 style menu, however, it returns mostly a bunch of useless stuff with the notepad being tucked away as result number 7 if shown at all. I figured it'll be easier to add a menu and tweak some keyboard behavior a little than go and replicate native search logic.
Furthermore, I feel that with some minor tweaks Win8 style menu provides a good compromise between the new and the old allowing me to move forward while retaining the convenience I've grown accustomed to.

In addition, I would not call this complaining. Complaining implies whining and accusations. I am, on the other hand, providing a valuable and, imho, constructive feedback based on my actual usage patterns and needs. Smart companies/product managers/developers tend to value this feedback as it allows them to build better products.
