Product activation could not write the activation signature. Why?

after purchase of a product and receiving a serial key, I downloaded and I established start8, I rebooted, I import the registration data and a serial key. there was "Product activation couldn't write the activation signature" message. why?
I already bought this product and money I can't return (

Try running the application as an administrator.

You shouldn't need to use the serial number option, thats provided for cases where you have a serial but no account (I.e. didn't purchase direct from Stardock), just use your store account e-mail and password and sign in using that on the Unlock dialog.
