Had to roll back all the way to 2.01 to avoid my weird issue with SSD usage. But now for some odd reason I'm getting the same bug as people in this thread.

As soon as Fences is loaded up, my icons are all locked in place, regardless of the sort or arrangement/grid settings. Even if I disable it, the icons are still stuck. I have to uninstall fences alltogether in order to get rid of the issue.

Anybody know of a fix?

I have the same problem describe here, except that I only have Start8 and Fences. I downloaded the diagnostic tool and have a zip file ready.  Please create a ticket for this.

That is the problem if your OS Win 8.x.  You need to install 2.13.

hello im having another problem based on the current one, besides not be able to arrange icons in fences, i cant arrange icons on the desktop or add folders/apps to the fences only by cut and paste or restore from the recycle bin. and i cant arrange the icons on my desktop. besides that i when i desable fences i cant move my icons arround either, or if i stop the process.

i might uninstall it after i try something else.

Are they locked?

Right click your desktop, select View, see if "Lock Fences" is checked.

No they are not locked, i try to move the icons around but the circle with the line through comes up. the icons are not locked or auto arranged. It does it even if i disable fences

Is your Fences up to date? 2.13 is the current version.

I am having this problem on a Win7 x64 machine. I only have fences 2.13 installed no deskscape and I can't add icons to or from a fence. If i drag around a fence, the icons stay stationary and i 'lose them' while the fence isn't over the area.

I have just bought a new HP Pavilion running under Windows 8.1 (bought it yesterday)
and I installed Windows 2.0 (which had suddenly stopped working under Windows 7 Professional for some reason about 10 months ago), and the program runs OK, except, like everyone else I cannot move Icons around the desktop and into or out of Fences (the "AutoArrange" into Fences works, but once the icons are in a fence I cannot move them out).

I do not have any other Stardock program (such as DeskScapes) running, but it suddenly struck me that it may have something to do with Windows 8.1 Desktop Themes (I have mucked about with them and found nothing so far).

So DeskScapes has nothing to do with it. Once I uninstalled Fences 2.0 everything worked. I will see if there is a later version (I think someone mentioned 2.09 Beta and perhaps that will work.

So annoying........can't get the icons to move! I know nothing about Deskscapes....I never installed it. 

Do you have any more details about what you're seeing?  Also, what version of Fences are you running (it needs to be 2.13)?

It is now August 2015 and I have the same problem, the only difference is that I do not have Deskscapes so thai is not the problem here. 

Any fixes yet?????

wondering whats going on with peoples computers and fences.i havent had fences since i went to windows 10 but i never recall having any issues with it.course i also installed the entire object desktop package at the time.i do beleive certain things talk with other programs and make it work better like icon packager i suspect works with icons even under fences.all these reports it seems like most here just had fences solely installed.

this is a 2 yr old thread.this should no longer be a main topic yet it is.strange.im assuming it may have to do with lack of ram or processing power perhaps.

best thing i can think of.i skimmed thru some of these posts but im sure this was answered.i hope you guys having the issue get it figured out,god speed and good luck

Im going to lock it.  If everyone has 2.13, this is not an issue.
