DeskScapes 8 Beta Bug Reports

How to unload.....

Hey Neil, how do we unload DeskScapes 8 Beta?

I can't find a way to unload and the help link points to help for version 3.25.

OK, same rig and codecs, same dream. DeskScapes3, vastly different results.

Note that CPU use is assigned to one core. Somewhat high, but I have 3 more cores to play with.

Again, only one core in use with the result of much less total CPU being used. I am not sure how someone with a single core system could even run DS8.

Two items of note. On the fresh DS3 install, it showed my wallpaper on monitor one and Desktop Earth on the second in the UI until I clicked on monitor 2 in the UI. Then it showed the correct walls applied on both. Applying a dream to monitor one left the wallpaper unchanged on 2. I am not using Display Fusion, btw,and use WB to apply walls for the most part.

Also noted, the preview in DS3 paused when moving/resizing the config window or using the snipping tool. In DS8 it does not. Not a biggy there.

I am merely pointing out what I am experiencing, not knocking the software, as I was under the impression that this what beta testing is for. I have used DeskScapes since it's release and have had this rig for years so I am familiar with its performance. I made note of what I observe to be major, in my opinion, changes in the operation and function of the new version. As we all know, not all systems will react the same with all software.

We appreciate feedback and the thread is indeed to report problems, but it would be very helpful if you could provide more information from what processes were using high cpu in DS8.  The high cpu usage is not typical or expected.  Even that 35% is way outside what it should be on DS3 unless thats one very poorly encoded video.

Quoting Neil Banfield, reply 23Your wallpaper on monitors 3 & 4 may be more linked to DisplayFusion.

That may be, but it wasn't a wall that I had applied with DisplayFusion.

Nevertheless, I hope you add the ability to disable DeskScapes from within DeskScapes.

Thanks, Neil.

Could you possibly have used DS3 before and assigned images to the other monitors before?  DS3 stored the settings even if you then switched back to a single dream but saved a value indicating if multiple monitor mode was selected.  DS8 is always in multiple monitor mode so any old settings would be used.

Regarding the disable option, Brad specifically requested the removal of the option.  I would imagine his thinking is if a dream is like a wallpaper then disabling it is like any other wallpaper and thats done by applying a new wallpaper however you wish to do that.

Running a dream on 4 monitors uses 46 to 58% of all 3 of my cores.

That is using dual graphics cards.

BTW, all info from me on this thread so far is on Windows 7 64 bit.  I have yet to run it on Windows 8.

I can buy that, even if I strongly disagree with it.

I guess he has the deciding vote.

OK, one dream, 3 static walls.

High CPU usage.

I might also mention that the monitor DeskScapes sees as monitor one, is the monitor that Windows sees as monitor two. Therefore, when I apply a dream to monitor one, it is applied to monitor two, and vice versa.

Ok, after the second install of DS8, the CPU usage settled down.

What I am getting using DS8 to apply a wall from the WB wallpaper folder is odd though.  Starting with the same wall on both monitors, I apply a dream to M1, ok, and the wall remains on M2 Apply a dream to both, the dream runs on both. Selecting the wall again and trying to apply it to M2, the dream still shows in the preview window for a long time, then the wall shows in the preview. Applying the wall to M2 just gets me a static image of the dream still running on M1. The only way it will change M2 to the wallpaper is to select Apply to all, which unloaded DS and of course applied the same wall to both again.

In short: I cannot have a dream running on Both, then apply a wallpaper to monitor 2. I have to apply the wall to both to get M2 to change. I also cannot have walls on both, then apply a dream to M2 only. This was possible with DS3. It doesn't seem to handle the secondary monitor very well as it will only change backgrounds if the background, DS or wallpaper, is applied to both.

In addition, running a dream on both and selecting a different on on M1 freezes the dream on M2, but changes and runs ok on M1.

Hey guys, on Windows 8, I don't seem to be able to get Fences 2 and DeskScapes 8 to work together. Is this a known issue?

When running DS8, I can't double click and hide my icons. And the fence isn't there.

Deskscapes is installed on a boot SSD with small size 128GB Sata6 with a additional 100mb droplet partition

The deskscape config.exe is using 50,9mb 0% cpu when open when closed of course nothing
Deskscapes 8 exe is running with 0,3mb and 0% cpu
Windowsexplorer is using about 38 mb extra when deskscapes is active and the dream is displayed on both monitors in 1920x1080 ( Dual Setup and animated wall) cpu usage remains at 0,4-0,5 % that is with all my other stuff opened and running of course... live stream chat, skype and all that stuff (tested this with applying a static wall and terminating deskscapes8) its simply not using more no matter what i try...

I downloaded and installed the Deskscapes8 Beta and it works great on my win 8 64-bit machine. I have looked and looked but can't find an option to change the Wallpaper/Dream at a selected interval. Has it been removed? Will it be in the final version? I have hundreds of wallpapers and dreams, and enjoyed having them change periodically with the earlier versions of Deskscapes.

Possibly a slightly more edge case, but I have an issue when I turn on/connect my 3rd monitor, where it doesn't apply the second monitors deskscape and defaults instead to the primary monitors scape. I am running Win8 64bit, and all the monitors are the same resolution, and the one graphics card.

I have 2 monitors which are always on. I then have a 3rd monitor (a TV) connected via a displayport in the graphics card. Whenever I turn the 3rd monitor (TV) on, the deskscapes do their own thing. Sometimes they work like 3.5 did, and the secondary monitors DS would also be displayed on the 3rd monitor (desired effect), however about 50% of the time the primary monitors DS is displayed on all 3 monitors.

When I turn the 3rd monitor off (so its disconnected) about 75% of the time it resorts back to the correct and desired settings (monitor 1 has DS1, monitor 2 has DS2), however 25% of the time, the primary monitors DS is left on both monitors. This was not an issue in 3.5 running on Win7.

TL;DR: Beta doesn't work like 3.5 did, where the secondary monitors DS is applied to a new (3rd) monitor. It sometimes is, but not very often.

Desktop Slideshow is not supported in DeskScapes 8 due to the UI requirements it had.  It will be removed from future updates.

Any third monitor has always applied what was on the primary monitor unless specifically set.  This is how DeskScapes has handled multiple monitors since we introduced support for different dreams on different monitors.

The rule DeskScapes follows is unless a dream is set on a specific screen, use the primary dream.

The random option is currently not in the beta until we decide on how best to expose it from a UI point of view.

Tried to delete a Dream I downloaded today from within Deskscapes 8 by right clicking on it and deleting, but it did not work.  Tried multiple times too. Had to go into the folder and delete it manually. If you try to delete a wallpaper though from within Deskscapes 8, it works fine.

Ok then, makes sense I guess. I assume it remembers the settings for a 3rd monitor, even if its connected and disconnected lots. However there must be some bug, as this does occur, where sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Just now for example I connected the 3rd monitor and it applied the primary monitors DS to all 3 monitors, even though monitor 2 has a different DS, and I have set the 3rd monitors DS to be different from the primaries countless times.

Deskscapes8 is pretty, but why is it when I choose the "Custom background" option in settings, the dream doesn't accept my choice of background?

It does still apply a dream to both monitors even if Apply to monitor 1 is selected. The secondary monitor gets the first dream in my list, every time.

My dreams only take up a small part of the screen. Why won't they occupy the full screen? Setting them to stretch does not stretch them to the full screen... even the 1080 wallpapers do not take the full screen. I am using a surface pro

Dreams you made?  Or dreams that came with D8?

What DPI are you set to use?
