Suggestion: Limt sovereign to 3 lives

In another thread, someone mentioned that a sovereign's ability to be endlessly resurrected reduces the risk/tension in the game.

I agree with this, but I also don't want one mistake ending the game, so I suggest three lives...just like the 80's arcade quarter munchers.

And hereo's should only get one life, although they could be resurrected if the sovereign had such a spell available.

I think that one of the reasons why having permanent death on heroes was removed between Fallen Enchantress and War of Magic is that it was extremely hard to create an AI that could both compete and not get their heroes killed off. I don't know if this is still a problem - but I think that it would make for a nice 'hardcore' option to reenact permadeath when a hero and their army dies, and have the injuries apply when a hero dies but the army survives.

Such a hardcore option would be very unforgiving, though, because until a player become extremely familiarized with all of the different monster and quests in the game, it makes it extremely easy to permanently lose a hero through ignorance.

That's not to say that I dislike permadeth - I love it, and some of my favorite games have it. I just don't think that it's wise to make hero permadeath a nonnegotiable condition on which to play this game.

Yea good points. But I guess the ability to save before each battle would negate the "threat" of permadeath anyway.

In FE there is a huge problem with permadeath, which is that champions are the main "producers" of magic (from levelup traits). If your champions could die, it would be nigh impossible to build a high end mage champion. Just one death and your whole game could be over if you focused on magic.

I would much rather see a version where X wounds would lead to either rubbishness or death, in this way I have a counter towards the end, and just before my hero die I can make my sovereing munch upon him with steal spirit... or whatever (Give me your magic ability!! :D)

Sovereign's with a finite amount of lives.. Not how I would have done it, I don't have anything particular against it except the AI would be crippled by the decision, but I think better solutions could be made.

one solutions would make 20 lesser wounds for your sovereign ONLY to sustain, so a death is not as gamebreaking, but dying 20 times will make you need some wound-removal.

Another solution could be to just increase the amount of turns spent "Stunned" in a city after being whacked...
Meaby with the ability to reduce this time by throwing gold at your sovereign.

The reason I put in these suggestions are for either modders to grab, but also because I have used my keen ability to mindlessly throw my sovereign at rather tough fights because I know there is "nothing" at stake... as long as I use my mana first.
